The lower should go aft, looking at the attached image from the manual, the upper to the fwd chainplate

Take a picture of the current shrouds near chain plate looking up. I saw it both ways.

Sounds like a good starting point. Take it sailing and make sure nothing looks too slack when beating in a moderate breeze.

Drop the mast. Use a wire snake down the mast. You could use a weighted trace line by shaking the mast at an angle of course
