so we've finished our install of the Candy Smart 5kg front loader and it's a perfect fit and fits through starb rear birth door with millimeters to spare. inside the wardrobe it's a perfect fit, behind into the port cabin wardrobe because the machine is only 38cm deep it allows for room to replace a substantial amount of shelving which as liveaboards we will miss. For the 220v that is required we linked into the starb cabin aircon power. the machine is quiet, only uses 48 lt water, has a 15 min and 30 min rapid cycle.
has a phone app for operation.
even on high speed spin it's very smooth and quiet.

Would love to see any pics you have of the install. Washer is on the short list before we head to the Caribbean in our H49 and I still can't get my head around how to get one to fit. I just don't see the room, but maybe I'm not looking at it right.

Ok, I have a very solid suggestion…
I’m going to gather this has an air vent for drying…..
The dryer isn’t going to vent well, if you use the same setup as the original WD
What Hunter did was mount an exhaust filter box under the port aft bunk.

Here us what is going to happen:
You will get a ton of fluff gathering under the port bunk, and it will also be very inefficient

I believe the host is 4”
What you want to do is make a filler plate out of plexi for the opening window in your port aft cabin window
Get a 12v inline blower.
Make a roll up hose which is permanently attached to the WD, and store it under the bunk
When using the machine, open the window, and put the plexi filler, (with hose attached)
In the window port.
Wire a switch to the blower.
So, you now have a power exhaust pulling all of the moisture out of your clothes, and the lint, etc, won’t be sitting in your bilges.
You will find this to be a very worthwhile modification

We have one - it came with the boat. It's located in starboard aft cabin to the right. It's in the locker next to the set of drawers. They removed all of the shelves and anchored it in there so it doesn't move.

Sorta bad news..
To get the splendide washer in (or out), cabinet surgery is required.
It consists of removing the door moulding, and the counter molding as well
I’ve done significant repairs on my unit, rather than replace it.
This is not a simple upgrade.

Since you have more experience with this unit than I do - can you tell me where the water discharges/thru hull/seacock are located (bottom of boat?)? I'm guessing since it was an option, it doesn't show up in the schematics (at least I didn't see it). Thanks.

Yes, if course
The discharge is on the stern just under the removable cockpit panel.
It’s a long run of hose
The intake comes from the manifold in the galley, as you need hot & cold water
Hope this helps
There are install photos on the Hunter docs.

There are some things you must know.
If you put in a unit, you must have a beefy support strap that holds it down. Hunter used a stainless bar. If you don’t do this, when the boat heels to stbd, it will go flying out of the cupboard!!!
Be mindful of this

the Candy machine fitted perfectly and also fitted through the starboard aft cabin without altering door jam/frame, carried it straight in, tapped into waterline, fitted a power point and took drain out through stern as Art suggested this machine is a 5kg front load washer that spins to 1000rpm, is self balancing and very smooth. it is a wash only and that's all we wanted.

IMPORTANT!!

You must have a brace on top of it holding it firmly down
Hunter made theirs out of stainless.
Until you fit this brace, don’t sail on port tack .

Okay - so if I'm visualizing this correctly - front of washer opens into port aft cabin, but is installed thru the starboard cabin, in that extremely skinny/shallow locker. I don't recall seeing of that wall section was pre-cut/removable. Definitely going to try and work this into the project list for this spring/summer. I do appear to have the electric and plumbing already in place there, and do have a steady hand with my oscillating multi-tool if I have to open it up.

I had VERY briefly considered installing in the forward shower, as we NEVER use it as intended and is currently a hanging locker/storage. It's closer to where the dirty clothes come off, and also is effectively already plumbed! But didn't want to commit to something that a future owner might not feel the same as I.

Thanks!

Slightly digressing (and I'm thinking of it because this appears to go "thru" the wall) - does everyone else have the panel between the aft berths that looks like it was cut out and replaced? Looks like it could almost be kicked out and allow you to crawl between the two cabins? Not big enough to make a giant aft cabin, just kind of "there"?

no, it opens into the starb cabin in the small double door wardrobe. the panels and shelves in this wardrobe are removable. It will then go right through to port cabinenabling the plumbing to rear. I left the rear wall out but replaced trimmed down shelving in the port wardrobe/cupboard so that we still had some storage. yes we use the forward shower as a storage area too for misc things like shopping trolley, beach umbrella, umbrellas, shoes, shopping bags :) it all goes in. the washing machine is the best and most convenient addition we've made and use it every other day, we've even found ourselves doing the neighbours washing!

no it opens from Starb cabin and was installed through starb cabin. it's a perfect fit so quite tight which makes it almost impossible to "fall" out but I reinstalled the shelves to rear of machine and braced the machine from rear also.

thanks Art I took that advice from you previously. the machine is actually quite a tight fit making it almost impossible to "fall" out but knowing boats there is always a way so I blocked the top and also braced at the rear. the machine still needs to move so vibrations don't transfer to boat so I used some padding on blocks as well..

You must block it from the top.
I know someone who did a retrofit without doing this. The washer ended up on the floor face down.

There is a designed kick out panel in the aft cabins for an emergency egress.
