It occurs that this might be a good time to collect everything in your "how to" section and personal experiences with owners and electrickery into a book. Not necessarily for money, but for occupation. I'm positive there are many, many people who would be interested in a " How To" book about marine electrickery that is a bit more modern than "Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual", and spiced up with your personal experiences with your customers.

I bought a digital flow meter from Amazon that also was a timer and controller that connected to a electric solenoid. It was all 12 volts and cost about 60 bucks. You can program it to flow a certain amount of water on a timer if you want. I use it for a total gallons used on my boat. Works great and is actually designed for exactly what you are doing.

That's great.

I just got done installing a windlass on my Catalina 315. I like to do things the right way, and even strive to do things the MaineSail way. I used the proper gauge wire, positioned the 70A breaker right by the batteries, made good crimps, even in the 2AWG that Catalina had thoughtfully run from the nav area to the pointy end of the boat.

The solenoid and it's switches were slightly more complex than I thought they would be, and as I'm lying on my back in the v berth looking up at my handiwork, I was glad that MaineSail would NOT see it. I mean, it's good, but...

Very glad to see you're not letting any moss grow.

What did you install? My windlass works fine for rope but does not have a gypsy for chain. With rope / chain combo I'm hauling 25' of chain by hand.

Hijack alert...I went with a Maxwell HRCFF 6. Chain gypsy for 1/4" chain transitioning to 1/2" 8 plait line. Chose the Maxwell based on a query I made online, and because it's design is compatible with being mounted on the ledge in my anchor well. Very happy with it thus far.
