Need to figure out what model Universal diesel

Just bought a 1990 C&C 30' MkII fin keel and having looking for diesel information. The engine looks to be a Universal marine unit; either a M18 or M3-20.

Wouldn't a picture help us to help you? After all, who knows what any PO may have installed.

The other reason for the picture requirement is that 1990 C&C 30' MkII fin keel sailboats may have come off the assembly line with more than one particular engine. Production boats are not like cars with one particular engine. Sometimes depends on what's available.

And when you throw a PO into the mix, anything goes .

Well, you can eliminate one or the other of those at a glance because the M18 is a 2 cylinder engine whereas the M3-20 has 3 cylinders.

Well we got it figured out with help from Westerbeke/Universal. They confirmed via pictures I set them. It's a M3-20
Found the manuals and parts list off Westerbeke/Universal website.

Now off to find parts as the unit has been neglected for a number of years. Looking at Westerbeke/Universal website and there looks to be a number of parts that are unavailable,. Does anyone have sources for parts? Heard that this block is a Kubota tractor. But need more info to cross reference to Kubota motor designation.

Is there a FAQ for basic Universal motor maintenance on this site?

If it's a Kubota block like mine the oil dipstick will have # printed on it. Mine says Z500 (Kubota tractor engine) which is Universal 5411.
