Hi all,

I know in the past I might have said I have had good luck but this may be even more astounding. We just tied up to our summer location and I was in to the routine of changing oils etc. when I noticed water in the transmission oil. My suspicion proved right that the oil cooler had been leaking water into the oil. The mechanic said that it was probably going to stick in gear or neutral in this condition. I flushed the transmission and found the part to replace it. Glad it didn’t happen offshore.

Sometimes we lucky.

We had three, yes three, transmission failures this year. Fortunately they all happened in wide open spaces and not in some tight marina fairway surrounded by big expensive boats.

But now you have installed a new rebuilt transmission. It is working positively, as hoped?

It was replaced with new, and then rebuilt. One failure was simply due to a lack of lock nuts. The cable mounting bracket fell off rendering the shift cable useless. No backing down the anchor that day.

And this was the last time, after the mounting plate cracked causing the transmission jot fall off the engine, again while anchoring.

Some people say we make our own luck but I also think it is how you see the world. You saw this as good LUCK that you discovered your transmission problem while in port and before something worse could have happened.

But I know there are people who would see this as "I tied up to have a relaxing few days and now I have to fix this F#@&-ing transmission".

So Kudos to you for being a lucky guy...:beer:

You are far underestimating the time. :( To resolve all of our transmission issues it took a total of 7-8 weeks between the 2 big failures (we lost track of time).

I call that good maintenance. You caught and corrected the problem before it became a much bigger problem.

I've never heard of something like that before, ouch.
