Replacing Engine Mounts in a Hunter Passage 42

I've looked at the video on the Ellebogen engine mount website for replacing the mounts, and without getting into the difficulty I have in general working on my engine, how could a person possibly remove and replace the starboard (inner) mounts? Especially the aft one. Has anyone done that, or does the shipyard have some magic trick to do the job? Thanks

It would help if you posted a picture that would allow others then H42 owners to assist you in changing out the engine mounts. Apart from space constraints it should not be to different from one engine to another.

Have not replaced any of our mounts. Would you please explain why you feel they need replacing? Our 1991 mounts remain in pretty good shape. Perhaps access to the aft starboard mount would work best if you removed the lower house bank battery box. You may even have to remove the entire bank assembly and rack. Either way, it will be difficult.

In theory it works well to remove the bracket from the block and replace the mount on the bench but I agree, in most situations you would be challenged to find access. IMHO Ellebogen makes a great product and I like the info they provide, it shows me they have done the engineering. I just put a set in my boat, they have a good article on how to determine if your mounts need replacing. HOW TO DETECT WHEN MARINE ENGINE MOUNTS NEED TO BE REPLACED - Ellebogen

From the link above.
"If we follow the manual of the Yanmar marine engines, the marine engine mounts must be replaced every 1000h or every 4 years. This type of recommendation is quite similar in other manufacturers of marine engines."

Every 4 years is kind of crazy. I guess they are considering the breakdown of the rubber in the mount?

I think you are correct, from an averaging perspective. Looking at the issue from the manufacturing side, if we tell you every 4 years and you decide and go 8, then any breakdown due to engine vibration could be on you. It is likely the legal minds at the company looked at a lot of results and decided, on the safe side, let's use 4 years. Assuming the average consumer would select the low end designed mount. What if you being concerned about the best for your boat select the best engineered mount good for all applications with a 10 year warranty?
Then is the 4 year admonition relevant?
Perhaps the 1000hr / 4 year direction is a recommendation. Upon inspection you discover all normal and in good repair. What should you do?

Most times a 10 years warranty is based on the owner or the owners rep. completing all the required maintenance. I am guessing on a motor mount that would be annual cleaning and inspection?
AND
In today's world nothing is made to last. That in itself is a sad stay of affairs and would be a different post all of its own.

Now I have my motor mounts scheduled to be replaced this spring. I will inspect them annually and place a replacement date on my google calendar for what the motor mount manufacturer recommends .

Like Terry, I have never replaced mine. I've got Passage 42 hull 65, a 1991 model, with 7,000 hours on my engine and about 60,000 miles under my keel. I keep thinking I ought to replace them, but they still look pretty good and I don't have excessive vibration. But I know I ought to do it one day . . . . .

A timely topic. I just watched the youtube channel Jibsea sailing's latest video, change his engine mounts. The issue he did not mention was the HP42 engine is tilted and the mounts are flat. This violates the mounting instructions resulting in what mine and his look like, extremely tilted with the metal on one side touching the base. The question I am pondering is how to remedy this when I replace mine. I am thinking a shim wedge of some sort underneath the mount. A figerglass board like G10 sanded into a wedge and coated with epoxy would be easier, not sure if it would be strong enough. Aluminum another option that I would have to have fabricated. Any Ideas? I am surprised none of you have had to replace yours given this tilt will wear them out sooner.
