If I were to replace my Raymarine ST40 Depth transducer, can I cut the existing cable and join the new transducer to it instead of laying the new cable?

Pretty sure you can as advised by Airmar when I purchased a replacement Airmar speed transducer that connects to my Raymarine knotmeter display display on my Hunter 386 and was recommended to splice the wires using Airmar IP67 waterproof D00218H Inline Cable Splice 6 Conductor. Suggest contacting Airmar to confirm.

I cut the cable when installing a new DST-800 transducer. Used marine grade heat shrink connectors, then wrapped with electrical tape. Working fine after 1 1/2 years.

A very similar question was posted a couple of years back.
Raymarine ST40 Depth
Yes indeed that was my enquiry and fortunately the transducer wasn't faulty back then. But now hmm... It's been flagging shallow or zero waters so very often on 30-40 feet depth that I'm wondering what's wrong with it. Polled the transducer from hull and it looks clean.
Think I'll check connections at the ST40 Display 1st. If still problem, will get a replacement transducer.

Looks like I'm not alone with such depth transducer issue. This post back in 2007 tells somewhat same story as my experience.
