Hi there: I'm new to boat ownership with a 2007 Hunter 31, and new to the forum.

If I have questions about the Hunter 31-2 specifically, is it better posted in "Ask A Hunter Owner" or the forum for midsize Hunters?

Also, if I'm referring specifically to the 31-2, is it better to use "31-2"? "2007 31" or something else to differentiate from the '80s 31s and the more recent Marlow-Hunter 31s?

Welcome to the forum!! Good boat.........my first sailboat was a Hunter 31, albeit 20 years older.

Others in the forum will have a view, suggest adding your boat's specific year and model in the thread topic and post to solicit posts pertintent to your model plus photos. Posting a thread on "Ask A Hunter Owner" will throw the it out to the larger forum for get both secific and diverse diverse responses, particularily since manty forum members have owned or own smaller, mid-size and larger Hunter sailboats or have experience with sailors that own them and some have been a former Hunter dealer.

Welcome. You can refer to the boat as an H31-2007 and it is best to post "In Ask a Hunter Owner" as a lot of the information disseminated in the forum applies to sailing boats in general. You may also catch previous owners of your boat model plus it saves from having to decide every time in where to post. Just going through all the posts in a daily basis will provide a ton of information which I guarantee some will become useful at some time in the future. When you post a question provide as much information as you can and pictures if available. When reading back answers you may find different interpretations to your question and different recommendations, just pick and choose the ones you find more appropriate. Once again Welcome.

Welcome to the SBO Forum. Congrats on the new boat. Having been on other folks boats you can now appreciate the ownership feelings.

A nice new to you 2007 Hunter, makes you want to find others with the secrets how to keep her in the best condition.

My opinion is except for a few issues, it will not matter during your ownership that the solution is provided by a fellow "Hunter 31-2 specifically' owner or a dinghy sailor with 30 years of experience sailing on boats of all varieties. If you want a specific query answered, first search the Hunter Only forum and see if one of the owners has had the experience and has solved the issue to your satisfaction. If not you may ask the Hunter forum members. The challenge is you have reduced the data set of possible solutions.

If you want to widen your exposure and generate a greater resource of answers, then use the "Ask All Sailors" forum. Tell them your boat. Provide pictures and descriptions of the challenge you are facing. And please, if you find a good resolution, share the results with the members.

We are a fairly forgiving and sometimes opinionated group of sailors.

I totally agree with Jssailem's recommendation to post your questions to the "Ask all Sailors" forum. You will widen your cast net to the opinions of others who may have had similar problems with similar equipment on a boat from a different manufacturer. For example, a
Lewmar hatch on a Hunter is the same Lewmar hatch on another boat. And, there are others, like myself, who have owned a Hunter in the past and now own a different boat. When others ask questions about their Hunter 33.5, I offer my opinion if I experienced similar problems on my previously owned 33.5.

IMHO don't limit your posts to any one make or year. Post EVERYTHING in "Ask All Sailors".

The people reading your posts in "Ask All Sailors" will have Cats and Hunters and Bennys and Juneaus and anything else that floats and many of those will have Yanmars, Universals, East Hopes or wind-up engines and have the exact answer you're looking for when you complain that you haven't been able to shut down your Yanmar for the last three days .

A 2007 H-31 sums up your boat but PLEASE carefully identify the engine, electrical component, furling mast, or whatever else you're commenting on. Don't make like the yahoos who begin "Hey everybody. My boat don't float. Any idea what's wrong with it ?

Concur with Ralph but first ask under hunter owners. Also there is a help desk on the hunter site at a cost asking former Hunter employees who can help as well. Be specific in you question identifying the equipment

Ask all sailors.... Note... helpful people do not exclusively hang out in a boat model only specific forum. They are interest in sailboats in general. The time frame in those model specific forums is long... you'll find many posts that are well over a year old. So most of us use the Ask All Sailors path so we see everything....That's why this Catalina owner is responding to your post.

You'll find, after a while, that boat ownership is not as builder specific in its issues like car forums are. Why? Because production level sailboats (which is this forum's focus) share many parts and systems. The majority of parts are interchangeable. Most of the systems, such as rigging, plumbing, electrical, power, etc. are provided by vendor... i.e. 3rd part providers.... unlike automobiles that design and fab a majority of their parts... or at least have exclusive agreements with their vendors. Remember, I'm talking about "production" level boats..... which Hunter is.
Okay......... enough said. Just ask and you will receive help... no matter what kind boat it is.

I know the two folks on the help desk and they know the brand and gear. Joe sometimes general information is good but to actually speak with someone who helped develop the boat and systems is better. You have no idea as to how many I help because I know specific brand boats and generally get to the problem quickly and advise how to repair as I too had to fix what I sold and was asked to repair boats out in the field for several manufacturers
