Re: Shore Power Incident Repair

Glad that you had success! Boats are just complicated enough to keep us all interested. I have learned and continue to learn much every year.

ON my 1991 P42, the breakers next to the shore power inlets controlled the power heading to the nav station breaker panel. There was either a galvanic isolator or isolation transformer just inside the area behind the shore power outlets.

My breakers did turn off the power to the panel, as I tested that early on. There is a little bit of room behind the outlets and I had a small amount of slack cable to mate to the shore power outlets so that replacing the old style with smart plugs should be fairly easy.
How did you get to the area behind the outlets? I unscrewed and could not budge them.

On my Similar Set up, I had to remove the 2- 30 amp breakers to see the inside and behind the Shore Power Hull Plugs.

See this for that part on the H42...

Hi Keith, if you mean the two boat shore power plugs, the outboard one that I replace several years ago popped right out. Our galvanic isolator is located behind the nav station power panel. Not much room behind the shore power plugs. I've not tried this before, but perhaps removing one of the overhead ceiling panels will give you access.

just as input- I had to move my galvanic isolator from behind the main power panel to as close as possible to the current entering the boat. This was recommended by the galvanic expert working mo my galvanic issue ( was burning out anodes in short time). I found by removing the engine control panel in the cockpit, it gives access to an abundance of space behind this panel to locate and secure the Galvanic isolator and it was easy to pass wires from there across the shorepower input recepticles.

Good to know, Eian. Thank you.
