I just gin pole.jpgbought a Hunter 19 and the gin pole is broken. See attached.

I have a friend who can fabricate a new one, but I need to see what the original end looked like. Can someone take a picture and post it please?

Specifically, I want to see how the gin pole keys into the hole on the mast. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply, friend.

It looks like Forespar specializes in whisker poles and such. I need the pole for the factory mast raising system.

It looks exactly like the end of what you have without the other piece of steel stuck into it.

If you have someone who can make another one perhaps they can straighten out what you have and get that piece of metal all the way up into it.

There is a bit of compression on it and I would not use what you have unless it was mostly straight and reinforced.

Yes, what I have is definetley unusable.

The manual seems to show a piece of metal that conforms to the outside of the mast while the post goes through the hole

. See the bottom of the attached diagram to left.

I also found a pic on a Hunter 19 part site. See pic to the right. This looks like it inserts right into the mast hole, but that seems like it would be a very weak connection.

That divot in the pole goes into the hole towards the bottom of the mast and rides on the ridge going down the backside of the mast.

OK. It appears that the end of my pole was never broken off in the first place.

The previous owner must have inserted the steel as a stiffener?

See, however, the gouges from the mast. Is that normal or due to improper use?

Right, Yes, and probably not unusual nor excessive.

Looks like a standard pole end (same as on my H25). The rounded concave end on the pole fits around the rounded convex ridge inside the mast. If your pole is damaged in any way (looks like there may be a kink) DON’T use it. Best is to buy or fabricate a new one of the same grade of SS pipe.

Thank you, friends. This info has been very helpful. Please consider this post resolved unless anyone else has anything else to add.
