West Coast sailor here that's heading up the coast of Maine and into Penobscot Bay in Aug for a 3 day sail. Itinerary is in the air pending research. Any tips or recommends, including scenic PB anchorages with access to a privy onshore would be appreciated.

Yes, make it 3 weeks instead of 3 days so you can get just a taste of the area :)

Tom should check in soon and give you some ideas. Until then, you might think of launching at Rockland.

For 3 days, launch at Rockland or Rockport. You should be able to get a few days parking. Then sail East to the Fox Islands, 10 NM, and spend a few days between (Fox Island Thoroughfare, which is like a sound) and sailing around these islands. There are several well protected anchorages around the perimeters of the islands and facilities in major stops like North Haven (moorings, bathrooms, provisions, fuel, etc.) If you feel adventurous and have time, head another 10 miles East for another world to explore around Stonington.

It's been a long time since I've had the pleasure of sailing the coast of Maine, one of my favorite sailing destinations of all time. Tom's your best guide, but honestly, there are so many excellent places to sail and the whole state is sailing friendly. Penobscot Bay is the best of the best, as is said.

Sesmith wasn't using hyperbole when he wrote "3 weeks". I think even TomY hasn't exhausted all the great sailing Down East.

I second the recommendations to use Rockland or Rockport as your base and spend more that 3 days.
Yesterday we were fogged in all day. It could happen to you.
