Cal, 29 ? San Pedro, CA.
I have my own sailboat, a Cal 29. I would like a partner who is a single male, more mature between the ages of 43 and 57. A person who is an experienced sailor, who also knows about working on engines. I need help with maintaining the boat. I will pay the slip fee and I want to learn more about the boat and become a better more confident sailor. I would work along side this person in doing repairs. My boat is a fixerupper.
Let me know if any of you know someone please. Or let them know about me and send me a message. Thanks so much Mates!

Welcome to the SBO Forum. The Cal 29 is a good boat. A boat is one of those funny gifts. Especially an older boat that needs lots of work.

Good luck with your partner search. I’d sure try to crew on other boats in the area. You'll learn a lot crewing for another owner, even if it is just for the club Friday night races.

Let us know how your getting along.

Thank you! I want to become more experienced on my boat. I have crewed on other boats.

So.... a 58 year old is out of the question? How did you come up with those age numbers? When you say partner, that implies ownership and decision making power. How would you terminate the partnership if it didn't work out... You keep the boat, of course, but does the "partner" receive any compensation? Who pays for the insurance, maintenance, upgrades and improvements made to the boat, over and above the slip fees? How much use of the boat is the partner allowed? See where I'm going? Is a partner what you really want? Maybe a "mentor" or advisor or craftsman that you pay if you just want to learn stuff.

@Joe - dude, you never ask that question... it just doesn't matter to us.... Of course, if you are the 58 year old looking for the "job", well just let that be a true confession down the road if other things seem to be working...

Here is where the crux of the matter lies - the OP says they are looking for a male partner, sailor and engine mechanic, with some age restrictions. The wording creates ambiguity. Is the OP looking for a business partner? A Lets-see-where-it-goes partner? Ya get my drift?

Sounds like there is need for an “diesel engine mechanic” who may wish to trade some expertise/repair work for access to and use of a sailboat. Presumably one that is owned outright (no loan) with the chief costs being the slip, insurance, maintenance, and repairs. The OP also appears to wish for coaching in the art of sailing. I would suspect that the boat needs new stuff, such as running rigging or sails, etc. it being a “fixer-upper” and would wonder how that gets paid for.

A Cal 29 would be a nice boat for sailing in the windy conditions near San Pedro. And wishing for crew sailing there, and beyond, is completely understandable. But the chief motive for this post is unclear.

Sorry, but you misunderstood my humorous jab at the poster being so specific in the age requirement. btw, some friendly advice, your "job" innuendo, the "get my drift" reference, etc. could be offensive to some (but not to this 75 year old dude), so be careful with the cleverness.

Hahaha - I was trying t make humor also... I did get your humor, tried to spring board off it... In any case, the OP hasn't clarified anything...
