Good morning,

I am looking to move a Cal 2-30 from Southern Cal to Central Cal. The boat weighs 10,300lbs is 9ft wide and of course 30ft long. So it is trailerable with wide load permit. Is anybody out there doing it? The biggest question I have is what the distance is from the bow water line is to the front of the keel?

If someone can help with that I would be very greatful.

Thanks much,

Looks like you are trying to figure out how big a trailer do you need to get is that right? In the water right now or is it already on a cradle is it still in the water?

Thanks for the reply. The boat is still in the water. I have a very heavy built trailer under a Cat 27. The keel base is long but since I am traveling six hours to pick up this Cal 2-30 I want to be as prepared as possible. If the distance from the bow waterline to the front of the keel, is no more than two different than the Cat 27, I'm good. Got any idea?
Thanks again,

Jack

It's recommended that 10% of weight be on the tongue so the distance will depend on the center of mass relative to the trailer. The water line and keel position are meaningless without knowing their locations relative to the center of weight. A picture or drawing would be helpful. its still not clear to me, is it on it's own existing trailer or are you planning to modify a trailer you will take with you?

So just an idea but you could print off a line drawing from sailboatdata of the new Cal 2-30 and a Cat 27 and overlay them to compare contrast. You could also scale a Cal 2-30 drawing using LOA to determine the scale and calc your required dimensions. Not very precise but it might help narrow the guess :)

Picture of trailer would be helpful. Info as to empty and max load weights noted on trailer ID plate. Load range of each tire as I have seen different size tires on trailers in the past.
Suggest keeping personal information to include telephone number off the general forum.

Thank you very much for the responceea and ideas. After all the run around of trying to put this deal togther; it fell through. the good news is ,the owner of an 85 Sabre 28 Mk3, that I really wanted, which has always been a fresh water Californina boat, on a massivly built trailer, that lives in my town agree to sell it. I am cleaning it up for May as we speak. Thanks again very much.
