Well, what do you do when you are told you are in quarantine for 14 days by the boss and “ I don’t care where you work as long as it isn’t here” and you don’t want to take a chance getting your wife sick right before a flight to see our oldest.....that’s right, you go single handed sailing!
I was notified by a medical provider that she tested positive, forcing me to report my exposure and get tested. Results take 3-4 days, I feel fine so it’s a e day local trip with remote work in the mornings. Lemonade out of lemons. There a lot of people hurting physically, mentally and financially from this crap. I am very fortunate no to be one of them. First night on the hook in Quartermaster harbor then I don’t know where. I might go south.

A time to crank up the heaters and mind the weather. Certainly south is protected, mostly.

A quick look at the weather off Steilacoom indicates you’ll have a chance to inspect the boat insides for leaks and heater efficiency. Temps in the mid 40’s during the day, 30’s at night. Mostly damp. Sunshine on Saturday. The breezes will clock the compass, light and variable Thursday and Friday. Potentially nice sailing winds Sunday and Monday. Pretty much an excellent winter cruising experience in the Puget Sound. Ideal for quarantine activities.

Been there done that! A good way to quarantine!

My daughter got called by a contract tracer. After answering the phone, the caller asked to speak to (her name). My daughter said, yes this is me. The first question she was asked was... "I'd like to verify your name".... wait it gets better... the second question was "I'd like to verify your phone number"....

God help us all!

I don't think either is an odd question, under the circumstances. Making hundreds of calls or more a day, off a list, it would be possible to call the wrong number and this is just a double check that an error hasn't happened. If you've been in a hospital lately, you may have noticed they visually check your wrist ID band so frequently that you get callouses around it.

Do you mean to tell me that those “robo callers” sometimes miss dial?

Appreciate the insight. I think I’m going to hold up in QMH, work for the afternoon then may head to Penrose. Last night did get chilly but nothing a extra blanket can’t handle. Power budgeting is in order having to keep a laptop and hotspot going with little solar panel help so far.

Is that what the call tracers are saying?
No I haven’t gotten my results back yet so no state tracers involved. The facility were I was exposed called to inform me and doing what I do, I asked a lot of questions and they actually didn’t plead HIPPA and answered all of them. This is how I know. Being were I work we have internal systems that gets direct direction from the health dept bringing about my quarantine. The Thanksgiving thing pisses me off, but the difficulty is what to do for the next week and a half until my wife flys out if the test is positive.
Pierce County HD is directing a 14 day quarantine (from point of exposure) regardless of test results. They are offering a 10 day option for emergency services with labor hardship but I’m not operations so 14 days of working at home, boat, cabin wherever.

I don't think it's an odd question either. Even if the dialing of the calls was automated, the first thing that I would do, would be to verify, "Am I speaking to, "...", and is your phone number, "..."? There have been three times in my life, when I have answered a wrong number call, where the caller wanted speak to me, without ever having any way of knowing that I would be at the number that they dialed... Twilight Zone...

I have a great story (that I can’t tell) involving a tactical team doing scenario training on hostage rescue when a phone call was made to a family member who was a actor but the number was dialed wrong and the person on the other line was told their family member was a hostage taker. Took about 10 minutes to figure out the small problem. Unbelievably funny, unbelievably frightening, unbelievably possible. We learned a lot that day.

I don't know about that...

Ring! Ring! Hello?
"Hello, Can I speak with Rob"
Yes! this is Rob.
"Thanks for taking my call. I am a contract tracer and our records show that you have been in close contact with a COVID + person. I'd like to ask you some question... 1) Is your name is Rob". 2) Is your phone number the one I just called you at :facepalm:

My wife also got a call from a contact tracer... to let her know she may have been in close contact with a COVID+ person.... ON THE VERY LAST DAY OF THE 14 day window. I don't really see my tax dollars working here...:poop:

There have also cases of names being the same but the phone number is for the wrong person.

It sucks that we cancelled all of our large family events for Thanksgiving and others didn’t causing my situation.
However there is a small bonus. It is our family tradition after the Thanksgiving meal to go around the table and think of something that starts with each letter of the alphabet that we are thankful for. Some letters like "Z" are nearly impossible to come up with anything good, until this year. We were thankful for Zoom. If you think of any other period of time this kind of thing could happen, its amazing that it happened now, with such great technology for communication.
