I also apologize for my grammar. I am typing this on my phone, in a boat, eating a PB&J.

Every boat, big or small, tells a story about the owner. Trouble is these boat stories often have sad endings. :)

I started this thread to simply share these neglected beauties, thinking someone else may have interest in it as well. No negativity expressed or implied.
How is using the term “neglected” several times to describe boats not a “negative expression”?

I believe that many forum participants enjoy the threads here that show beautiful boats. There have also been a few posts that struck me as humorous such as the large seals or perhaps sea lions that have almost submerged a boat by beaching on it. They don’t feel the least bit derogatory to me. Maybe that’s just me but I’m not into things like “fat shaming” or other such social media behaviour either.

How you can think that posting potentially identifiable photos of neglected boats would prove interesting is beyond me.

As far as moving on there is a very effective tool here called Ignore that I will be using.

Last winter or the one before, there was a thread about a Little Harbor that sank in Hamburger Cove Ct. There was lots of commentary about how and why such a valuable boat was left to that fate. No posts about shaming. I don't know if that is right or wrong. More and more I appear to be "Undecided."

I know of instances where a boat is acquired to hold a spot for a better boat that is in the wings....No excuse, though. There are people out there who would love to own a boat..

It happens all the time. People in Southold used to put a cheap boat on a mooring in front of their house to keep others from dropping a mooring there. Folks put boats on moorings when their turn comes up on a waiting list. Same for town docks and other marinas. Some towns take measures to make more equitable arrangements. Others, not.

I don‘t see the shaming. I see some interesting stories maybe. I always wonder why some boats get like that and what their story is. I know I couldn’t afford to let my money go to waste like that

I think something like this should be shamed. Abandoned and letting the taxpayer pick up the cleanup cost.

Interesting perspective. Although I’m not sure the photos are a fair comparison.

Some are of boats that appear to be dirty but tied up and floating at private docks and “potentially re-usable” while this one looks pretty much NOT :)

The person who left the boat in your photo likely couldn’t care less while the photos of the other boats might be people who had a interest in sailing but “lapsed” for awhile.

Not for me to judge.

If I see something that I think is dangerous or hazardous then perhaps it’s my “duty” to record and report to the appropriate entity’s.

I don’t like the idea that some of my tax dollars go to cleaning up someone’s else’s mess either but I think maybe it’s the world we live in. :(

Don't know if any of them were cement. They all appeared to be (what was left of them) either plank or plywood. Which one do you suspect is concrete ?
The one down past the marina opposite the broken down hall. Did a kayak explore this summer around to. Billy Proctors. Some interesting old stuff .

Maybe this is the cornerstone (no pun intended) for camera activity next summer, where there will be cruising without Tyvek. (We can dream)
