I have a 1981 J/30 that has a 1 5/8 OD sanitation outlet thru-hull. New sanitation hoses are obviously 1 1/2” ID. Does anyone have any idea how to connect a new hose to one of these old thru-hull fittings? I just hauled my hot so replacing the thru-haul is not an option right now. Thanks!

Get a large tapered plug that are sold to plug the through hull in case of emergency. Warm the hose, try suing a pot of boiling water. Once the hose is warmed insert the plug and stretch the hose. Let it cool and then install it on the through hull. It may need to be warmed again as it is placed on the through hull. The initial warming and stretching will make it easier to get started. Lubricate the through hull with liquid soap or detergent.

What kind of hose are you using? I use rariton hose these day. Would think if you heated up with hot water you would be able to get it on........

Good luck

Assuming you have a threaded thru-hull cock here or at least a ball valve somewhere in the line. Should be a threaded hose barb fitting or threaded reducer available for that. Simply close the valve and install the fitting.

Now that is a very interesting idea. Assuming my hose is like the Raritan hose, this might help.

I think the hose that my local marine supplier sells is very similar to the Raritan hose. It is that somewhat stiff solid white rubber hose.

The raritan hose is a very flexible hose...... Recommended by the Head Mistress herself.

I went to Harbor Freight and bought an exhaust pipe expander. That worked pretty well for me with the application of really hot water.
