Boat traffic on the coast of Maine is high.

Not what I was expecting at all. Especially at popular destinations like Northeast Harbor on MDI. We got the last available mooring on a Sunday before noon. Spent a day between trawlers that played dueling generators. Is that fog or smog?

Still the big easy, everything you need, close at hand. Hot. Days! We lived under the awning, way down there.

All the rental moorings we’re gone early yesterday at Frenchboro. Biggest crowd we’ve ever seen at dockside lobster shack. Guy said it’s been crazy busy due to covid.

Good news is everyone we’ve seen is taking precautions, no knuckleheads.

We’re replenished with provisions, ice, water and will get lost for a while. 90% of cruising boats all go to 10% of a coast. Pick your own root.

Things are a bit crowded down here in Casco Bay as well. A whole slew of Cayman Island boats.

Soundings magazine, which I just got, has an article about Covid and the Maine Coast crowds. I haven't read it but there's a pic of a large raft up with the article.

For those of us pathetically ignorant sailors (well, me anyway), what or where is Northeast Harbor on MDI, please?

I haven't seen anything in this thread that looks crowded to me. I'm guessing you don't really know what crowded looks like! ;) MDI = PPOP (Pretty Place on Planet). It really is.

As Scott says, traffic is relative. I just took a shower on the side deck in our anchorage and didn’t offend anybody. This boat sailed by.

So glad I sail where I do! I get annoyed if I can even see another boat, or even lights after dark.

Each to his own, but it can be quite entertaining and exhilarating at times, to see other great boats, and great sailing. We enjoy Newport, RI, and Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard, MA, 'cause we love seeing sailing and great sailboats - and some great motor yachts, too! :) Last weekend we were moored next to two 12 meter America's Cup yachts, Columbia and Nefertiti.

If I came into a deserted beautiful anchorage I would wonder why no one else is there. What am I missing? I don't mind some company. An Artic experience is not on my agenda.

The above 2 screen shots are of a great little nook... The Basin... Never crowded and an awesome hurricane hole....

so, some of us use totally different standards then others here. some love a crowd, i find crowds available all year round. some like harbors in towns , cities, hamlets, (they all offer the same stuff), if i can get there by car all year round, then not so special for me. some assume that if i say the big crowd spots are not what i'm looking for, that i am looking for serenity, (jviss). nope, nope nope! these are not the standards i prefer.

love the crowds at the chi-mac races, i've never lost the party
love the wild places where nature abounds
love people (i sail with big crews/not mom and pop)
see, i'm loud, i'm adventurous, i'm daring, i'm clean, i love pushing the limits.

so what am i looking for while playing with these wind toys?
places with "NO RULES"
no one telling me to quiet down. no one telling me "RULES" that they go by. no one saying slow down. no one telling me to keep moving.
no one telling me what to wear. no one telling me what i need to do.

with all my sea time i have seen many things, been there done that, got the Tshirt.

i love the "WILD" places and they abound where i sail.

no rules baby!
