Well, if they are patient and wait maybe 4 or 5 hours. In the meantime the guy in the cockpit shouldn't move. That can't be good for the rudder post.View attachment 183292
this looks like is was a 'light grounding'. to start. the fender out is a nice touch.
i'm thinking the crew should not run to the bow in hopes of sailing off
Might as well paint the bottom while it's dry. Maybe he did this on purpose to do that. The old sailing ships did it all the time.View attachment 183292

I like that he is still hiking, shows optimism.
this one not so much
He should sit to leeward. Maybe the extra heel will be enough to sail free.I like that he is still hiking, shows optimism.
East of Belfast, you’re lucky if you can send a text.dave, i like that. 'mast is still vertical, can be sailed off the ground'
tom, are there pictures?
Sp you think the boat coming upright in the middle of a tack, dropped the keel enough to touch bottom?Once we were sailing in a narrow shipping channel. As we came to the edge of the channel, we tacked and as boat came upright during the tack the keel hit the bottom and the boat stopped. The crew ran to the bow and the boat slid in to deeper water. We were lightly aground.
There are three kinds of sailors, those that have run aground, those that will run aground, and liars.I've never experienced a hard grounding
Sometimes you can free it by shifting weight and heeling, but not if you have a wing keel. My boat in 2017, parked it on a reef, kedged it outLightly aground: the keel is touching bottom and the mast is still vertical. The boat can be broken free by simply shifting crew weight and heeling the boat.
