Questions after first launch for Hunter 23.5

Hi, my wife and I recently purchased a Hunter 23.5 and we launched it this weekend. We had a couple questions as the boat sat for 5+ years

1. What size is the cooler in the boat?
2. How do you run the water line for the sink?
3. The single burner stovetop appears to be original. Does anyone use the original one still, or should we replace with a new one?
4. Our boat didn't come with a table. Does anyone have the post or table dimensions for us to fabricate one?
5. The boat came with an asymmetric spinnaker, but no halyard or blocks for the spinnaker gear. How is it rigged?
6. Has anyone done any wiring mods for the boat? I'd like to add a couple charging plugs. Perhaps using a second 12 volt battery (outboard has an electric start)

I have the two burner stove in mine and it is original. Love it.

You pour ethanol (go to Lowes in the paint section) into what looks like a giant sterno can. When the top is down, and you are not using the stove, there should be a rubber gasket that fits over the alcohol port and keeps it from evaporating. They get dry rot but are still available online... however I have found that a sandwich sized ziplock bag placed over the port works just fine as a gasket.

On the cooler, you should be able to measure that with a tape.

If @Crazy Dave Condon chimes in he can tell you more about the table and the cooler. If they are the same as the H26, I can get you measurements the next time I'm at my boat. It will be about a week's time though.

The H26 / H260 cooler is definitely much bigger than the one in the H 23.5. I think the brand is Igloo, and I think the particular size might be hard to find. I'm happy to measure my cooler but I can tell you the top of the cooler comes even to the top of the bench beside it where the access to the bilge pump is, and with the handles on the sides it just barely fits in the space side to side. When the cooler is in place in the well there's about a one-inch gap between the front of the cooler and the the floor.

On the cockpit/cabin table, not sure if the 23.5 table is the same as the 240 table. But here is a 240 table on ebay (not mine). We don't use ours because the boat is weight sensitive and things don't stay put when you move around.

What kind of a stove do you have? Older used boats can show up with different appliances. If it is an alcohol, non-pressurized Origo then it is a keeper. They are not very efficient but are very reliable and safe to use. Are you talking about the galley sink, make sure you have a discharge thru-hull first? It is just strange why someone may have removed a plumbing line. What type of battery? House functions are usually assigned to deep cycle batteries measured in Amperes per Hour while engine starting are usually a Starter Battery measured in Cranking Amps. Many will use deep cycle batteries for both House and Starting but it is good to understand the difference between the two and how their use affects longevity.

Make sure about the fuel for you Origo singl burner stove. @rgranger did you mean alcohol vs ethanol for fuel on stove

Regarding the table. Look under the boards under the forward v berth as the table and leg were stored there. The table leg is square on the bottom which I think is 2 X2 inch square. The one suggested does not show such a leg so be careful

Listen to Rick on the cooler.

Ethanol is the alcohol used in stoves. There are many different molecules that are commonly called alcohol, the three most common in commercial spheres are ethanol (drinking alcohol) methanol (industrial cleaning solvent/a.k.a. wood alcohol) and isopropanol (rubbing alcohol).

The alcohol you buy for stoves is "denatured" ethanol. The word "denatured" means that it was rendered undrinkable by adding a trace amount of a toxin so that they don't have to pay the damn revenuers a tax:oops:. The toxin is usually a little methanol or benzene. In theory you could burn 180 proof scotch in your stove but that would be criminal.

You don't want methanol for an alcohol stove. It would burn fine but the vapors are toxic. Isopropanol is too volatile.

The cooler is an Igloo Marine 25. The 25 refers to 25 quarts.

The tabletop is 18 by 36. That Lacey strip is made of rubber and helps keep things from sliding around. Note the 2in square base. There's a matching receptacle hole in the cockpit. The single leg is curved, I believe, so that it doesn't interfere with the tiller when it's set up in the cockpit.

The blue strap under the cooler is to help lift it out of that hole. Probably not really necessary as you can open the lid and just grab the sides of the cooler and lift.

@rgranger
Some would have questioned that to gas which is why in a sense a clearer explanation was needed. Thank you.

@ Rick Macdonald
Thank you for the info with pictures. Please look at the starboard rub rail near the bow to make sure no separation of the deck to hull joint occurred as that is important to know. I will call you today about your boat.
