I have Hunter Legend 35.5 and sail the Northumberland Straight with plans on sailing the Bras d’Or Lakes. Current Bruce anchor came with the boat but looking to upgrade to a Rocna 20 kg for a main and a Fortress FX-16 backup.

What are you all carrying for anchors for this boat size and weight.

Have you installed a windlass as my boat did not come with one

A 20kg Rocna plus a decent amount of chain means you need a windless unless you are much younger and stronger than I am. I do like my 20 kg Bruce plus a hundred feet of 3/8 bbb.

Rocna 20 kg and Fortress FX-16 are good choices for your boat. I replaced the Hunter-supplied anchor with a 35 lb Manson Supreme on my Hunter 386. and the sailboat came with a windlass from Hunter.

Just switched from 22lb Delta which was only good for clean sandy bottom and nice weather. With 50ft 0f 5/16 we dragged a lot. Now bought 35lb Classic Rocna with a roll bar, and hoping to anchor with our friends. Very disappointed with Lewmar Delta. Now looking for a windlass to install. Any recommendation? Different model boat here, but our 35,000 pound 1991 boat came standard with a 40 pound Danforth, 30 feet of 5/16" G4 and 250' of three strand 5/8" nylon rope. When we took possession in 2002 I changed that to 50' of G4. I also added a 20 pound lead ball kellet. We've anchored hundreds of times all over PNW waters in all kinds of sea states. Very pleased with the performance of our arrangement. Boat also came with a Maxwell horizontal below deck electric windlass.

@ArkadiyS your change to the 35lb Ronca is a change in the right direction for your sized boat. Anchors are systems not just a pointy weight on the bow. Designing the system to meet your anchoring needs is the most rewarding.

@Terry Cox uses his trusty Danforth and Kettle to create the system that best uses the Danforth design.

On my 17,000 lb 35ft displacement boat, I employ a 35lb Mantus (similar design to the Rocna) with 105 ft of chain and 250 ft nylon rode.

Way to heavy to haul up manually. I installed a Lewmar V3 windlass. It effectively lifts and stows the tackle away.

My H34 is a slightly smaller boat but I recently upgraded my stock 22# Bruce to a 35# Mantus. This was part of a larger project to install a windlass and upgrade the rode to 55' chain and 250' of 8 plait. I posted a pdf of that project on this forum page H34 windlass installation
