First Mate’s first sail

I took my new first mate on her first sail yesterday. Wind was 12-15 knots with some bigger gusts. We just sailed with a reefed gennie. Kept it short at about a hour and half. She will be a sea dog!

SO when you get home from your West Coast adventure... You thinking about getting a first mate?

What kind of dog is she. This was our Retriever / Poodle mix ( Golden doodle) had the coat of a retriever, but the energy of a poodle. She just loved being on the boat, jumping off the swim platform when we anchored and would swim forever, dinghy rides and tearing up and down the shore.

Our first dog, Bear, loved to sail. Canoe, Hobie, or big 50 footer, he just loved the water and being on something that floated on it.

We never leashed him, he stayed right with us. Went for long walks all the time as we traveled from one of my wife's nursing assignments to another. Once, we were staying on my father's Freedom 44, Windwalker, we all headed down the dock to go for a walk in some town we'd just arrived in. Bear got off with us and stopped. We walked on. He stood there looking at us, then looking back at the boat. He suddenly turned around and jumped back on the boat. That was where he preferred to be. That was the first and only time he chose something else over going with his people.

@Scott B Another very pretty mate. Yes, I'm very partial to Goldens. I like that mix that gives her the golden coat and poodle energy.
We had a couple of Goldens we couldn't keep out of the water when it was near.

That's a thought! Oh, you're probably talking about a dog. Yep, that's still a thought.

What kind of dog is she.

She is a Golden Retriever. She will also be a hunting dog. She will be my fourth hunting dog to train in 35 years. She will learn to ride in airboats like her predecessor. Yes I know, the antithesis of a sailboat, but they don’t really need much more than slick mud to run in! Great for our back bays and coastal duck hunting.
