Please post a picture of the luff of the jib. What is the diameter of the rope in the luff? Are there grommets in the luff?
What brand of furler? If you're not sure, please post a picture.
FYI, a Schaefer Snapfurl CF-500 uses a 4.5 - 5.0 mm diameter luff tape (aka #5). Most of the other small boat furler brands use a luff tape with a diameter of 5.0 - 5.6 mm (aka #6) . If you have a Schaefer Snapfulr CF-500 a jib with a #6 tape will probably "fit" into the foil if you force it, but there will be too much friction to hoist it.
There are some curlers, I think made by CDI that do not use a foil or track, they furl around the wire luff.
Yes, Harken, Furlex, Ronstan and others make small boat furlers that require there to be a wire with thimbles on each end ( But not CDI.)
