I love night sailing and I love my Windex (I don't have electronic wind instruments), so what's better than lighting it up?

Where I sail the wind tends to die at night, and in light wind it can be particularly difficult to tell by feel which direction the wind is coming from, so I think this is going to be really handy.

Last night was the first time I used it. I had my 170 drifter up in about 5 knots of wind, and the Windex light came in really handy.

I have a led version of that light. I often worry it might be confused for a anchor light.

:plus: My led anchor light lights the windex quite well- better than an incandescent. Flipped on for a second, you can read the wind.

I think I'd like that a lot. I would hope it is too small to ever be confused with an anchor light?

How's it wired?

Mine's also LED. It's 0.25 watts. I thought about the anchor light thing too, so I left it on while at the dock and started walking away. Even by 100' it was pretty hard to see.

I still might paint the shiny aluminum bits of the Windex a matte black next time I have the mast down, just to make it even less visible from off the boat.

I have it wired in with the running lights. I'm re-doing my wiring so I could put it on its own switch, but I'm not really sure why I'd want to.

I go sailing after work a lot, and later in the season the sun sets pretty early. I've only sailed with the Windex light once so far, but I'm really looking forward to having it.
