Great Study!
“with the rise of communication technology, people are likely encountering more bullshit in their everyday lives than ever before”
This statement could not be more true!!

Initially I was pretty skeptical, but then eventually got sucked in by the crowd. Funny how that works. I just looked at the photo again, up close, and there are several issues. First off, the height of the shortened mast does not match his description. Secondly, the angle of the shrouds do not match the natural angle that would be caused by gravity. The forstay is intended to look loose, but it would be impossible for the upper section to angle outward. That is not what would happen with gravity. Something else to note, the boat in the photo does not match his profile. If this was such a great idea, why isn't it done to the Pearson? The boat in the photo has a light enough mast that it could be easily unstepped for going under bridges. While I don't mind a good joke, I do have mixed feelings about a joke that plays off our desire to show respect for others. It does tend to cheapen that desire and good will.

For what it's worth, here's a link to another forum discussion from Stargazer from 7 years ago including the telescoping mast reference and picture. 7 years would be a long time to keep a troll going, so I'm inclined to believe that he's got something working on his boat. Although I'm still skeptical about the possibility of the technology working more broadly.

Fascinating!

From the conclusion:

"“One of the most salient features of our culture is that there is so much bullshit. Everyone knows this. Each of us contributes his share.” One benefit of gaining a better understanding of how we reject other’s bullshit is that it may teach us to be more cognizant of our own bullshit."

Ok, now I am suspecting some mental illness. The inconsistencies in his posts in each thread are glaring. The need to claim achievements is telling. I do not mean to impugn the guy, but to sell the same fantasy 7 years apart with the same, poorly altered image is indicative of a problem, in my professional opinion. He segues into his “special mast install” at an inappropriate time, indicative of a need to draw attention to himself. These things indicate Narcissistic Personality.

I knew from the start that this thread was a troll. That is why I asked in my first response if this was April 1st. The image is very poorly altered. The story is inconsistent. He fabricates systems to match our ideas as we discuss the challenges: Tele Furler, for instance... as I recall, he fabricated at least one more “Tele product” in his thread.

And then these posts which say he no longer owns a Precision-18: Precision 16 - Mast Compression Post

So, did you watch Instinct Sunday night?
No. I have never heard of it. What was it about?
I mention the diagnosis because I am an LCSW, and I treat patients with NPD, BPD, Bipolar, as well as other issues. I see these behaviors often. People with NPD need to draw attention to themselves, have little empathy for others, and desire attendance to their feelings, ailments, and accomplishments.
I am thinking of some comments he made on another post this Spring when a person requested help setting up a sailboat outside Chicago. He attacked that person, and I pointed it out to him then. He attempted to draw DrJudyB out on a post about the sails earlier this week. Both posts would have heightened and prolonged drama, but they would have also made him the center of attention again.
I really do not mean to impugn him or insult him. My thoughts here are honest and professional. I think I have a pretty good case. His behavior on the forum sometimes does not advance the community. I worry I am skirting castigation here, so I am being forthright about my analysis. What he is doing deserves some investigation.

@agprice22 Instinct is another police procedural on CBS. Alan Cumming plays a retired CIA agent who is currently a criminology professor at a NYC college. He is particularly fascinated with serial crimes and narcissistic personality disorders and his character borders on the edge of that diagnosis. The show has interesting and contemporary plot lines, humor, and good acting. Each episode has a "psychological theme" that is explored through a crime, usually murder. Sunday's theme was Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

Main sail, Yes I no longer own it, it's been consumed by an LLC for testing purposes. Aiding in proof of concept and testing. So you all believe what you want. Capt Rob
6 years of testing by 6 different people, for 12 months each, but now it has been "consumed" and used for testing by an LLC? Color me confused?

With 6 people for 12 months each one might assume there is a better more updated photo, yet we still only have a very poor photo that was apparently taken back in 2012...?

No other photos?

I enjoyed the troll. In fact I encouraged it with my initial response. Mea culpa?
At least now we can "believe what we want". ;)

@Maine Sail
I’m not the least bit confused, LOL There’s a consistent pattern throughout this thread: He hasn’t provided a single direct answer to any direct question.

So why does it matter if the claim is real or not. can it not be an interesting discussion either way, without throwing stones and making durogitory accusations? how does it negatively affect anyone here if another person were a narcissist? (not suggesting anyone is). can't we all just get along? :)
