Battery Box vent

Re designing may battery box and want to build a venting system because they are wet cells
What is the best method to vent?

A small hole in the top of the box and loose openings where the cables enter. The primary gas, Hydrogen is lighter than air and dissipates quickly given half a chance.

What i was thinking was venting to the cockpit area wanna take the hydrogen and acid fumes out of the engine compartment
Will a vertically oriented duct work OK?

Yes, but I think it is over kill. So long as the hydrogen has a way out of the box, it is not an issue, it dissipates too quickly and there isn't enough hydrogen to cause an explosion outside of the battery.
