12 noon, gusts to 50 knots. Newport 30 just across from me had his mast snapped about 2 feet below the spreaders. I think his jib
came unfurled before the failure. I heard a loud pop and that was it for that mast.
Les, your 36 is riding fine. I'll keep an eye open for it.

For those of you in Everett, I'm on P dock by West Marine

12 noon, gusts to 50 knots.
Forecast indicated gusts to 60. Possession Sound and Saratoga Pass all white water. Good time to hunker down in some lee anchorage. Belle-Vie should be okay. Check on her this weekend. Use to be on "P" dock many years ago.

It rains so much up there trees aren't deep rooted. I've seen news reports of people getting killed by falling trees in PS.
Amazing that a mast snapped in only 50 knots. We have so much wind here, most sailors tie and extra strap around the furlers just in case.

@seanshine thanks for the update. I try to make sure there are at least 3 wraps of sheets around the Jib. The buckineer just down from me has none.

Yesterday was a great day to work on the boat!!

A number of trees down in the Picnic Point area south of here. Whew! That was some strong wind. I swear, had I put my arms out like wings there would have been lift off.

Yesterday, Port Orchard tornado confirmed as an EF-2 tornado. The survey revealed the twister had estimated wind speeds of 120-130 mph
Today, in Poulsbo, wind gusts were just under 50 mph so a relief from what was forecasted. We took the jib sail off of the boat back in late October primarily for mold and mildew prevention.
This morning's wind forecast for 10 AM is from the morning news. Obviously the folks in Victoria, Point Roberts got it worse.

Wow.... Left the boat yesterday evening. It was almost balmy for December. This is the season that anything can happen. 2016, Nov 28 I was sleeping onboard when 60 knot gusts were recorded. Boat was on F dock and was rocking and rolling.

Such an event suggests it’s own reward for removing your sails, folding, bagging and storing them in the boat during winter when you do not plan to go sailing.

Good news that no one was hurt.
