It is that time again for us to give up the extra hour of sailing sunlight and fall back in time to early morning sunlight and short daytime sunlight.

Maybe it is a good thing that some folk have to winterize and store their boats all wrapped up. They are less tempted to leave work early and get in that hour sail before the dark shows up at 4PM...

Well it is the night that we sleep an extra hour if we don't consume that hour with play and frivolity. And it is the day to prepare to change all of the clocks so they chime correctly.
So give a thought to the poor guy who has to adjust all the clocks.

JS,

I've been saying for years now, that if we just set springtime a half hour forward,
than we don't have to do Fall adjustments. I think a simple onetime half hour adjustment will not impact us that much.

However, I've NEVER heard a discussion anywhere on taking this approach.

If I had my choice I'd not move the clock time at all. If it is summer I'd go to work an hour earlier and get off after 8 hours and play till dark. Why do I need the government to tell me to switch my clock? But maybe for the best of all I do not have that power.

Just to really complicate things, some other countries change the hour a few weeks from now. That gets the time zone calculations all confused for flight staff.

I was single hand Chesapeake to Texas in 2011. Crossed the time zone shift there in Florida , back an hour heading west, and the very next day, became standard time. Back another hour, Talk about screwing with your head :)

Years ago, when the daylight savings time was being debated, I listened to a radio talk show that invited people to call in with their comments. Pro-daylight saving time supporters mentioned one benefit being longer daylight in the evening during the summer. A concerned lady called in and complained that with the longer evening daylight, her lawn would need more watering. :banghead:

Fortunately, Roland you live closer to the equator and the amount of daylight you have stays pretty close through out the year.. 10hrs20min the shortest to 13 hrs 56 min at the longest. 3hrs 26 min more summer fun time
In the PacNW our shortest day is 8 hrs 25 min while the longest is 15hrs 59 min. 7hrs 32min a whole work shift. Or a great extra 42 nm sail. Maybe that is why we sometimes feel sleep deprived up here and keep stopping at Starbucks for caffeine.

Imagine there's no watches...no one on time...people sleeping at sunset...waking up to birds.

Imagine all the people...living for the day....

flying to Iceland from US in the early 60.'s we landed in Newfoundland to find a half hour time zone set up. Was REALLY strange
Keep in mind that there are more countries with time zones that don't fall on full hour (e.g. Afghanistan, Iran, parts of India (all half hour off) or Nepal (15/45 min off))

Wish that they would stay on DST and not switch back and forth. Or, even the Shadow's recommendation of one half hour without a change would be good. Its been proven that there are more traffic accidents, heart attacks, as well as other incidents that occur when the time is change.

The clocks aren't the only thing screwed up, the seasons are about a month off around our area. Leaves used to change in early October, now it's November, May used to be warm, now it stays cold. Wonder how they propose to fix that???

Up in Washington they think if the government can establish a Carbon Tax every thing will be fine.
