I have to admit, this year I’m approaching the season a little bit differently. Last summer with my cancer treatment, I used racing as a focal point to keep me going and to keep me on the water. We raced every week throughout my treatment and we actually had our best season ever. But this year Jodi and I are focusing on more on having fun. Racing still important, but we probably sail more cruising with friends than we do racing. Last Sunday we skipped a race just to go out and have some fun with friends in the 12kts breeze. There was a large regatta for A-scows taking place and the professional photographer that was on board took some snaps of us as we went by. Clearly we’re not having enough fun yet. Working on that!

I'm proud of you Jackdaw. Having fun just to have fun. Next thing you know you'll be trading jokes with @Kermit and me. Well, let's not go overboard just yet. ;) Baby steps.

For real, though. Glad to hear you managed well with your treatments. I'm sorry to hear they were ever necessary.

Those “storms” that happen in our life tend to give us a different perspective and it makes the “smooth sailing” all the sweeter. Good on you sir! Blessings for many, many more long sails with loved ones and good friends...(and a good beer or fine whiskey or two to go along )

Thanks everyone, yes for sure it does adjust your priorities. That's part of the re-focus, make sure to have fun, and focus on the people that matter. Heath-wise all clear for now, the docs were very confident that the 3 chemos and the month of radiation would zap it. They were also 99% sure I would lose my hair, but my hair is hard to kill! Apparently just like me.

Glad to hear! When I had the J24, all we did was race, tow, travel, improve, race - rinse and repeat. Now with the B, we do a lot more cruising around the lake just for the heck of it. Still enjoy the racing and tinkering with the boat to make it faster, but I have found that just driving around is a pleasure too. Of course, that doesn't mean I'm not constantly trimming sails - old habits die hard! :biggrin:

Glad to see and hear too. I just found out a long time friend and co-worker of 20+ years died suddenly at 53. She was a great person and got my foot in the door for my current company that I have enjoyed working for 13 years now. Live and enjoy and have fun every day.
