Greetings,

I've heard people talk about this many times, as a lube for manual head pumps. Now that I've decided to get some, I can't find it!

Can anyone please help? @Peggie Hall HeadMistress ?

Thanks,

jv

I use Superlube - White Teflon without ANY Petroleum. You can get it a Ace Hardware, or Graingers, or any number of places.

Yes. Peggie recommends “SuperLube” to keep your head working smoothly.

Yup...SuperLube. Not only the best toilet pump lube, but great for winches, y-valves, seacocks and anything else that needs a lubricant that doesn't wash out every time it gets wet.

Just use vegetable oil it's same thing
No, it's not the same thing. SuperLube synthetic grease is the same kind of thick grease that's in toilets when they leave the factory and lasts at least a full season. And it's about 15 minute job to replace it every year as part of spring commissioning...and about a tablespoon is all you need.
Veggie oil--or anything else thin enough to pour down the toilet--is a never ending job because it just washes out in just a few flushes.

So where did the idea of pouring veggie oil down the toilet to lube it orginate? The earliest piston-cylinder toilet pumps had leather valves and seals...and leather soaks up oil. So toilet mfrs recommended veggie oil to lube the pump...flushing a couple of tablespoons of oil when the toilet wouldn't be used at least overnight kept toilets pumping smoothly for up to a year or even longer. When leather gave way to rubber, nitrile and neoprene, none of which absorb oil or anything else, boat owners just kept on pouring oil down toilets and telling others to do the same.
