We’ve seen more boats between here and Mystic Seaport than we’ll see in a season on the coast of Maine.

Not a bad thing, just different. Once the last generator shuts down, it’s surprisingly peaceful.

Just returned home from "The Block" after a glorious 12 day stay (mooring 83)...... The fog hit us on the way out. Thank goodness for radar and gps tracks!

Thanks again for the mooring. :) I think everyone here should know that @NYSail is a nice guy. My wife and I met him and his wife by chance in BI because we were on the vhf asking the harbomaster about an open mooring, and NYSail came on the radio and offered his, already paid for the night (they were waiting beyond 11:00AM for the fog to clear before departure). He could have just dropped his and had we picked it up we probably would have been charged, but because he mentioned that it was paid (on the same channel while I was talking to the harbomaster) and he waited for me to get there before dropping his pennant it never came up again. We also had a brief chat from cockpit to cockpit.

It wouldn’t have “clicked” that we met except he mentioned the mooring number. Small world. :)

Hey Tom, it’s calms like you show in your picture that cause things to go haywire in the BI Anchorage. Next thing is the boats on rope rode meander, and boats drag if the wind comes up in the opposite direction of the last “set” (if they don’t re-set). Seen it many times there, as the poor holding is well known and poor seamanship is rampant. (Raft-ups contribute to the issues). That’s why I tend to favor moorings there. Seen too much “stuff happen” there.

Don’t start rumors Larry..... I’m really a horrible guy. My wife is the nice one..... anyway it was our pleasure to pass it forward to a fellow sailor! Glad you enjoyed and maybe next time out (or if you ever head west towards port Jefferson / mt. Sinai) we can grab a drink together.

We go to block every year. Stay at Payne's. It's like living in a frat house. We love it. Our first trip there we anchored on the outside in Old Harbor. Now here's a sunrise.

I'm anchored in the Great Salt Pond now, near Harris Point. Been here since Sunday evening. Overcast today, light rain early this morning.

We were there for 5 days and left on July 4th. We anchored for a few hours waiting for a private mooring after 5. I had a 40+ power boat almost swing into me. I was all chain and he was mostly line. There was no one on his boat. I was able to let out more scope and avoid a collision. We saw many groups of 10 - 15 boats rafted together by can 13/Dinghy Beach area.
We were lucky and picked up a mooring the next morning just off of Champlin's. It is a beautiful Island.

I've sailed in more fog this year than I have in the last 5 years combined! We were in the fog for close to 3 hours leaving Block too.
