Clean and waxed time

Hi all,

We had the annual haul and painting of the bottom, but I didn’t have enough time to wax so I had the marina do a buff and wax. Some of the blue had oxidation bad enough they did some sanding with 800 grit to get the color back. Looks a whole lot better and we’re back in the water.

Sadly, that effort would be wasted down here with all the boat boys and friends coming alongside during the season.

What do you use for bottom paint?
How many coats are on there?
Thanks
We have been using
http://www.pettitpaint.com/products/antifouling-bottom-paint/water-based-antifouling/hydrocoat-eco/
since we blasted the bottom four years ago. Traveling from Maine to the Bahamas every winter picks up a variety of growing organisms and if it sits for any length of time the stuff blooms. The pressure washer takes that all off but too much paint comes off also. Usually the flag coat is showing on 80 percent of the bottom. Each year we have been doing three thinned coats with the last coat covering the remaining green flag coat that is underneath. I guess that's the nature of ablative. Maybe next year we get the pressure washer to clean it all down to the flag coat and start again.

In the pic, your boat's topsides look grey and the antifouling white. Is this correct?

The white has a hint of blue [to my eyes] but its reflecting some of the surrounding colors. The wax they used had some blue color too but they buff that off when it dries [except the splatter on the deck]. I saved the hole saw discs from the cockpit when I added speakers and those look cream/white. The Hydrocoat is stark white which is hard to look at while painting.

Since the last time I used a buffer took over 2 weeks of Aleve and Tylenol before I could lift my arms, we opted to have it done this time.

I just spent an hour cleaning out my roller and pan. The build-up over the years wouldn't let the roller run into the bottom of the pan [at least 1/2 inch of build-up]. I used a hammer and pressure washer to beat the aluminum pan and there is still a lot of paint stuck to the sides. Why doesn't it stick to the boat like that.... Anyhow, the roller now runs the full length of the pan.
