Source for used sailboat stands?

search of the web yields nothing but links to new Brownell stands or Craigslist posts of anything boat-related except stands.
I remember seeing a place on the east coast that has tons of them, but can't think of the name.

Anyone know of a place that sells used boat stands?

You might check with various boat yards to see if they have any that they are willing to part with. However, I don't think you will get matching sets. Maybe visit a boat yard and take measurements of a stand that will support your boat and then have them fabricated. Might just be about the same cost wise.

Really?
I would think the cost of having a shop machine an acme thread on a 24" round stock would be prohibitive compared to getting hold of an old rusty stand from a boat yard.

Years ago there was a place in or near Boston that had tons of pulpits, railings, assorted hardware, and yes, boat stands. I just can't remember the name

Darn.... I hoped this post would be about a good source for stands instead of a request for where to get them.

I feel your pain. I have searched for used stands before with no luck. Each time I ended up making my own cradle.

Good luck!

Thanks Kraken, but shipping to Ohio would be ridiculous, plus I can get new ones for about $120 ea. And those don't look nearly as "heavy duty" as the ones already on my trailer.image.jpeg

Keep looking. Call any marinas you know of and see if they have any leads (although from your other post it doesn't sound like there are a lot of marinas in your area). A set will show up for sale and you know how much they are new. I found a set of 4 on Craigslist last year for $80 after looking for a few weeks.

Best value for your buck is to use a scaffolding leveling jack, about 20 bucks at HD, acme thread, nice forged adjustment wing, and build your own. Not impressed with the crappy junk that Brownell sells, they don't even take the time to fish mouth the ends, flatten the ends and weld them together. We've made them at my shop for years!

I think in the Hunter Download section there are also plans for a transport cradle. I know that is not what the OP was looking for, but it could give enough info for fabricating stands. JMHO
