Flagpole Using a Mast

I have just gotten a 32 ft. aluminum mast that I would like to use as a flagpole. It has the shrouds on it as well as the spreaders. It is oval shaped with the largest diameter around 7". Has anyone ever done this or have a link to show how to do it. I have searched here and google but have not come up with a good description.

Thanks.

Our sailing club has one in front of the 'Afterdeck'. I don't have a picture of it. I think the base was poured using a sonotube that extends above ground a couple feet. The shrouds are attached to the concrete base. Ours was extended at the top with some kind of pole to get more height.
If I get out there this week I may be able to take pics.

It looks like you can use one set of spreaders as a yard arm, and then you could optionally add a gaff. There would be no shrouds as they would interfere with flag movement, but halyards to the top of mast, to the end of each spreader, and to the end of the gaff (if added).

I think if you planted deep enough in the ground it would stand up to most wind conditions.

Bear in mid that the mast on most boats is not extruded to the same thicknesses of a flag pole. It is designed to be supported with shrouds to maintain vertical.

Chip makes a good point. Ours is probably extended to get above the shrouds and avoid entanglement.

Using the shrouds for support in addition to sinking it 3-4 feet into the ground sounds good. Any ideas about how to fabricate the top so the flag can spin 360º?

Thanks Schoen. I had forgotten the other bases.
We get some pretty strong winds here in Oz. The pole has held up great. That's the beauty of a talented and diverse membership. We cover a lot of skills.

I wonder who built the beautiful structure? I wonder who paid for & built the structure, stick by stick.... Patrick
