2 floods and 2 ebbs? But only on large tides. Looking at June the strongest current is 5.8Kts. Most are in the 2 to 3 range.

@all I see that there is a "Vessel traffic services" and some "Regulated navigation ares" (yea, I read the magenta notes on charts so that makes me obtuse) I know the coastal pilot for the area spells out in mind numbing detail what those are anybody care to give a cliff notes version?

Not moving the boat, cost benefit to keeping the most equity resulted in a decision to sell her.
Well big boats seem to be a common problem for both coasts.
My OpenCPN has the tides and currents forecasts integrated so that will make it easy to plan ahead.

I know the bay has firing ranges that close the area from time to time and they play with the GPS at the navy station south of Annapolis. Any areas like that in the Sound?
I can't answer for the sound Bill but we have area WG up in the Strait of Georgia that is a joint USN/RCN weapons range. VHF weather allways tells if it's active or not. Big boats (in general) are usually keep south of Vancouver and generally not in the San Jauns or Gulf Islands. Trust me when I say the Magnetic field will draw you north to the Islands.
Stay out of the way of Tridents comming and going from Bangor. There is one torpedo range up by Canada but never seen it active when traveling thru.
As far as the ranges. The CG would appreciate if you stayed out but no big deal. I skirt the line and go more or less directly across at close to 90 degrees. Ferries are a bigger issue - don’t go to the head while crossing or it could have legal consiquences
Forgive me, all. But for someone who is retiring (?) and moving to the PS area of Washington state probably will soon be finding himself sailing most of his time in Canada or in the San Juan Islands. Nicht so? For anchor rode, I use the 7 x 50 formula = 350 ft. A scope of 7x in 50 ft.

Why are you guys teasing Bill a great Chesapeake sailor with grand stories of lifetimes of sailing opportunities. We all know it always rains, never a breeze, and the anchorages are all ruined here in the Pacific NW.
Exactly which is why I’m trying to convince the wife to move to Anacortes or Bham and not Gig Harbor when we move out of the Seattle area
John, if you promise not to tell Bill I'll show you a couple that aren't ruined. Some even have Pubs!
