These expenses look to be in line with what we pay here on Lake Ontario.

One of the cardinal rules of sailboat ownership is never add up the expenses.

Cost is highly dependent on where you do it, how big a crew you need, lodging, food, incidentals.
Our son raced for many years in Lake Michigan and the travel costs alone dwarfed annual dock fees. It's entertainment which is limited only by your wallet size.

Sounds about right. Here's BlueJs. I'll list it but I'll never consciously add it up. I think I know what it all adds up to; funny but 90% of it is spent from Jan 1 to April 1.

WYC member dues - $450
US Sailing - $65
Season dockage - dock/slip for 26 foot boat - $2500 - discounted from $5000
Indoor heated winter storage - $700
Launch, pullout, step mast - $0 - club owns launch crane and mast pole
Insurance - $350
Race, Regatta Fees - $0 - included in membership
Fuel - $20
Upgrade budget - $800 - new toys
Maintenance - on average $400
Sail Budget - $1500 - 1 new each year - average
Beer - $100

Guess who almost never buys a round. :)
Racing Protip #1 - If you have crew that does not bring beer for every race, you need new crew.

BlueJ's fridge is really a repository for crew provided beer. The 100 bucks is for the occasional top off. ;^)

Oh - WYC taps 2 kegs after every race. So no shortage on shore.

my budget just went up another +$1200 dock fees, and +$??? storage. MCCM was certainly a bargain, esp with winter storage on-site at only $4/ft. Another $90/lift in or lift out PLUS grass yard in front of your slip. Gonna miss that place

For the past 4-5 years on a boat we crewed on for 10 years, I provided the lunch for our crew of 5-8 for the bigger races we did....an average of 2 times a month. I perfected my Smash-Box-Sammies and thus, was the official sandwich maker. (for lack of space in my cooler, I forced them into a container that smashed them flatter than normal which we found, led to exquisite flavors after a day of racing. Though I loved doing it, it cost me over $60 each race for the ingredients and quite a long time to prepare each evening before a race. I wasn't content just doing sandwiches though and began providing Habanero Margaritas once we were in the slip and what started out as one container (2-3 margaritas) became 3 to cover everyone interested. Though the crew sometimes provided the tequila, it really added up. But I wouldn't have had it any other way. It was my gift to our fabulous crew. I agree with another post.... rule #1, don't add it up!!

Very informative thread (scary, but informative).

I will never ever ever add any of my expenditures up. It is all free ;).

Canadian, but even with the exchange of 22%, we pay more.
The OP has a 30 foot boat, you and I have 35-36 foot boats. My slip is about $1900 US, your slip is about $1800 US. Winter storage (includes in/out, storage, mast step/unstep) runs about $1200 US and my insurance is a little under $900 US. My marina is not a yacht club, so I don't have YC dues to pay. I think if you do the conversion, you come out a little ahead of me.

Ya, I never noticed his boat size. And this is the price I pay for being 10 minutes away from my boat :)

Jackdaw , race fees for our club are $25/yr. The rest are for away regattas. One of the perks of racing on Lake Erie.. Lots of weekend racing.
