In this video I wonder if anyone is building boats like this on the west coast of Florida
Also is anyone building a boat like the Presto 30 in Florida
it looks like a cool island hopping
boat too.

I plan to be in the Pine Island Saint James area of Florida where there is shallow water and lots of cool islands to explore. Im here in Bradenton, Florida now and have done sailing around here. I was born in Florida and know the weather can change quick and wonder how the Sea Pearl 21 handle some wind when it might come up. I want to take some ham radio gear with me so need to keep it dry maybe under cover. Pelican box to have it in might be good too. Thats why I was thinking about a Santana 23D since it does have room inside. Poti pot and sink and other room for slepping out of the weather but with its dagger centerboard and kickup rudder you can get in shallow water. Not as shallow as a Sea Pearl 21:) Looking at different boat Ideas..... Im going to be buying a home on water there so I can lots of sailing and fishing. I will be in the south part of Saint James City short run out to the bay.
Any ideas for what type of boat lift would work great for a sailboat which might be Sea Pearl 21 or something like it. I was thinking about a Schock Santana 23D but they are hard to find in real good condition. They do have room inside out of the weather more then a Sea Pearl 21. I want the sailboat on a lift so I keep the bottom clean and can just use it with ease. So have to have ideas doe the proper lift for a sailboat.

Does it have to be on the west coast of FL? The first boat depicted in that video was probably built in Vermont by Two Brothers Boatbuilders and is the subject of a dozen or so videos on the OffCenterHabor web site.
Many of those boats would be excellent for exploring FL west coast's shallow bays and for beaching.

Slightly off subject, but have you read the excellent book Flotsam and Jetsam by Robb White? He talks adventures and places on the Fla West coast, mostly shallow water stuff.. he was based out of Dog Island by Carrabelle.. definitely worth a read..
His dad was a boat builder in the area

In the late 80s there was a young man undertaking a long cruise in a Ses Pearl. He passed through the Great Lakes. Can’t remember his name or ultimate goal. Googling might yield some results.

Then for small boat sailing and talltell telling we must rember Tristan Jones.

The Sea Pearl is a very seaworthy boat in the hands a good, and knowledgeable sailor. I have sailed expedition races with them and they are solid. The Presto 30 is a variant of the old Outward Bound 30 that hundreds of kids have sailed. A Roger Martin design. Shame the Presto did not catch on, it was a great small sailboat. Both these boat are known as Sharpies. An ancient design that spreads the sail plan between two smaller masts. Nicely balanced. In the case of the Sea Pearl you can furl and ship the masts and go to storm conditions or start rowing. For camp sailing in SW Florida I would take a Sea Pearl over any monohull. There should be a ton of them out there for sale. Easily trailered, easily crewed.

The Sea Pearl 21 is bigger than CHIDIOCK TICHBORNE which Webb Chiles circumnavigated in logging more that 35000 miles total.
Copied from www.inthepresentsea.com "CHIDIOCK TICHBORNE was a stock English-built Drascombe Lugger. 18’ long, 6’ wide, unballasted, and with a draft of 4’ with the centerboard down, 10” with it up. She weighed less than 900 pounds."

Not sure where you are, but I have a friend in Crystal River who owns a Sea Pearl. He loves it and would be happy to talk your ear off about it, I'm sure.

I cruised the Pine Island Sound area quite a bit from '06 through '10. The Sea Pearl looks like it would be a fun boat for that area. The Intracoastal Waterway offers access to Charlotte Harbor to the north, for great sailing, and Fort Meyers Beach to the south, for the beach, of course. Locally, there is a great waterside restaurant in Saint James City on the canal. A ride up to Cabbage Key for lunch is traditionally a must.
We used to like anchoring off the bay side of Sanibel Island, and dinghy into Ding Darling Bird Sanctuary. If a Norther does show up, there is a good anchorage just south of Charlotte Harbor at Coya Costa State Park, just right for a shallow draft boat.
In short, there are lots of places to go and lots of things to do around Pine Island in a boat like the Sea Pearl 21.

Just don't bother ordering the "cheeseburger in paradise" at Cabbage Key. ;)

And don't forget the "Ragged Ass Saloon", in SJC! That is one fine establishment.

I have helped built boats in the Bradenton area all of which were custom sport fisherman. Ricker Bros. Custom Yachts. (I was the Tower and Rail fabricator)Can't really help with shallow draft wooden sailboats. But have to say Will is there anything you don't know or haven't done? You are one knowledgeable guy!

One place I would like to sail to would be the 10,000 islands area which is shallow water around there. This Presto 30 boat had a guy that did some sailing with it through that area. Yes a Sea Pearl 21 might be the ticket.

There use to be a guy that had a shop building wood boat just south of Ringling Home on sarasota bay but I bet he is gone since the property was worth so much on the water.

I grew up in that area, Clearwater. My wife and I lived in Bradenton for over a year, right after we got married. I worked for Cochran Concrete in Sarasota, building their molds. George wasn't hiring, otherwise, I would have worked for him. 30 years ago.
