Besides the big guys. I get their emails daily.

Last weekend Jodi and I made two interesting discoveries. Her brother-in-law has doing a BVI sail in his bucket list, and 2) Jodi and Kristi, who are both teachers, have their spring breaks on the same week for the first time ever.

We want to avoid if possible brand new boats and their associated pricing, but due to the storms and all the boat smashing, who's up and operational in the 2nd and 3rd tier?

Anyone with first hand knowledge?

I don’t know either. As you mention, the big boys are up and running. Three years ago we used Conch Charters who uses older boats. They were fine to deal with and Boat was in good shape. But, I don’t know if they are operational now.

We just sailed back from the BVI to St. Croix this afternoon. While moored at the Bight at Norman Island, we noticed many boats from Dream Yacht Charters and the Moorings. There were many others, but those are the ones we saw.

By the looks of the number of boats, things are quickly recovering. The Soggy Dollar Bar and Foxy’s were both thriving on Jost, and the restaurant and bar at the Bight seemed to be very busy.

We did have a rather brisk sail back this afternoon, with winds topping out at 40 kts, and waves and swells from 3-14’. Made it back to STX in 4 1/2 hours!

Might I suggest you take this opportunity to venture a bit farther afield and try the Grenadines? Sail Grenadines seems to have a nice operation, based in Bequia. We anchor among their fleet and they seem to take good care of their boats and customers.
I should think you are ready to graduate from the kindergarten of island sailing to at least middle school. LOL

Yea, maybe I’ll kick the training wheels off soon!

Try Martinque and St. Lucia for some ass-kickin' sailing in the trades. Take a day and rent a Jeep and check out the mountains and the rum factories. Get off the beaten track. You won't be disappointed. You can do it. Have fun.

Yep, you've pretty much hit the nail right on the head; ass-kickin'. I don't recommend the channel sails for any but the hardiest of bareboat renters. If one gets unlucky and gets the kind of winds we've been getting the last few weeks, the kindest thing one can say about the channels in the Leewards is that they aren't any longer than they are.
