How much bottom paint should I order to put 2 coats plus 3 on water line on Catalina 36 wing keel? Also will epoxy ahear to bare sanded lead keel? Thanks, Peter. Carrabelle Fl
That works out to be wrong by a factor of two, in my experience. I did 36x12x.85 and got 367. Yet, it takes me almost two gallons to coat the bottom. I usually use Interlux Micron CSC or something similar. I roll it on.The "average" gallon can of bottom paint typically covers about 400 sq ft (depending on application type, etc.). You can figure out the area you need to cover as follows: LOA x Max Beam x .85 and go from there.
The formula I quoted should have stated "LWL" rather than "LOA." That should result in a coverage area of a bit more than 316 sq. ft. on your boat. What did the coverage on the paint you used state a gallon would cover? Not sure what your application mode was, but requiring almost 2 gals to cover that seems bizarre to me. I can apply a single coat of bottom paint my H28.5 with a 1/4" roller using about 65% of one gallon, for example. That works out to be wrong by a factor of two, in my experience.
