In all seriousness, the spin looks clockwise. I’m trying to see her spin counterclockwise but it just doesn’t work. But on the other hand, nahhhhh, I’m not going there.

It's how your brain sees it. If you concentrate you can see her spin either (both) way.

I have seen her spinning as with my mind
She twirls to the right
and She twirls to the left
The permanent direction I cannot find

if you stare at the point where the foot touches its shadow long enough, you will see her switch directions....

I learned to use a view camera in 1977. You know, the one that you put the black cloth over your head to look through. The image projects upside down and backwards on the ground glass. Our commercial photography instructor taught us that if you look at the image just right your brain will flip it right side up. He was right. @centerline your technique doesn’t work for me. Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!

@centerline's technique works well, but you can also watch the shadow of the toes at the bottom of the image to change rotation.

The optical illusion only works because there is no perspective. If she was a 3D figure spinning in one direction or the other, you would notice het extended foot or hand getting smaller or larger as it rotated away from you or towards you with each cycle. If your brain sees her from the elevated point of view she appears to rotate clockwise, if you concentrate on seeing her from the perspective of looking up at her she rotates counter clockwise. The real trick is to convince your brain that she is flat and not rotating at all but collapsing in towards a centerline and then expanding out to the opposite side each half cycle

it might take 3 or 4 minutes... I had my wife do it and it didnt work for her either.... but she kept watching and she finally seen it happen, then it it just keeps right on turning in that direction....
