Original 3gmf yanmar on my 84 Hunter has many hours but has been serviced regularly. original fuel pump mechanical y driven, has lost its pump capacity. Anyone replaced this pump? Or replaced with an electric lift pump? The replacement looks to be rather straight foward, any thoughts or tips appreciated.

I did one on a 2gmf. Just your basic mechanical pump driven by a lope on the cam shaft. Tight fit to see or move around, if you can remove the dog house around the engine the job would be much easier.
The hardest part was bleeding the lines once the new pump was installed.

Close the fuel line valve at tank to minimize loss, five minute job, can't remember for sure but there might be a paper gasket involved also. I've found that when purchasing Yanmar parts always ask for the gasket because the parts person never mentions it if one is needed.
It is a tiny and unimpressive little diaphragm pump but they are remarkably long lasting and the only engine part that leaves you thinking "That was cheaper then I expected !"

I replaced my 2gm with an electric. Make bleeding a snap.

There is a gasket.

And, I "can't remember for sure" (too), but there may be some copper washers required.

you can anneal the old cu washers if you forget to order new ones. it s a bad idea to put old ones in without annealing them...
