Irritating, but I've had them a few years.
Now what would you choose for a replacement?

A monocular! 50% less likely to break. I've been using one for many years. They are lighter than binoculars and very compact but if size matters, don't buy one.

I really wanted the Canon 'stabilized' binoculars, but was pretty sure they were just another con, so I bought them from a place with a guarantied return policy.
They are not a con! They are absolutely incredible. As they are much lighter than standard binos, you can move up to 10 power without the hassles of 10 power standard binos.
All I can say was they were one of the best and most useful investments I've made in my boating pleasure and safety in many many years. I gave my Steiner binos away as I just didn't need them any more.

Take it apart and use one half as a monocular. Ted is absolutely right. Monoculars are very useful, light and should give higher quality for less cost. Binoculars do not give a wider view as is oftentimes assumed as your vision fuses the two images into one. Binoculars offer better depth perception if they are not too much out of alignment, and they look cool like in the movies.
Either choice will help spotting numbers on bouys.

SUPERGLUE!!!! Did that to my binoculars several years ago as a temporary fix. Still looking around for replacements. Got to start looking harder, tho. The last time I used them I noticed the compass was sticking a lot. And the battery is dead on the night light. Alas.

I've had both i) Steiner Commanders with integral compass for over 25 years; and ii) Fujicon 14-power stablized binoculars for about 19 years. The Fujicon's were a Father's Day gift from my kids.

Both myself and all of my crew almost always use the 7x50 units except if they're playing around at anchorages or just "seeing how they work".

A good set of 7x50's have always seemed the best bet to me. The combination of field-of view, ease of use, induced vertigo (in a seaway), weight, and size make them advantageous. The little batteries in the stabilized compass are a non-issue in the conventional binoculars.

Those are just my thoughts.

Bought my 7x50's in Hong Kong in '58. Work fine but they are just more of that cheap Chinese stuff that probably won't hold up! Reminds me of the sailors who had "made in China" tattoos on their rears! Chief

I got mine off Amazon at a lot less than on the site above. Somewhere around $360, I believe, which is what one would pay for any decent binoculars w/o stabilization anyway.

I demo'd the Fujinon Techno Stabi stabilized binocs at Boat Show a few years ago, and they were amazing. The price stopped me from making the purchase. I would want a marinized binocular no matter what.

Nikon's. They are fairly well collimated out of the box. If you register them, Nikon will repair them for life for free.
I had a really old (30+years) pair with a broken center hinge. I called Nikon about a repair, if I had a receipt or proof of purchase would be free. Since I didn't it was $25.00. They couldn't repair them, so they gave me a new pair. Now, you can register them online, instead of keeping the receipt. Not cheap, but not crazy expensive either.

SG, I am curious about your observation of induced vertigo. Which type do you find induces it?
