Hi all,

We aboard the Dalmatian were treated to some Southern Hospitality today by fellow forumite Jibes138. After a quick boat tour we were off downtown for a relaxing lunch at one of the many restaurants in Beaufort. Delicious Pimento and Bacon sandwich for my wife and I had the Cajun Shrimp on Black Beans and Rice with Guacamole. (thank you spell check)

We then toured through town, along the waterfront, and over to Ft. Macon. Before heading back we stopped at Walmart for those quick items you always need. After a stressful week of repair work and towing we really enjoyed the time to just relax. It is very nice here in Beaufort. Thank you David.

Spellcheck told you to capitalize shrimp, black beans, rice and guacamole?

Hi, Dave!
No it helped with guacamole, I only had 6 outta 9 letters. We're going to be here a while waiting for the repairs so heaven may be a little disturbed. Shrimp boats coming in today here at the docks and a wooden boat show Saturday at the Maritime Museum. Should be able to keep busy. BTW staff meeting was the term my wife and her friends who taught together at our local school used for the once a month get together at the nearby golf course. Usually a sunny spring day on the 3rd Friday after school and on the outside deck facing the putting green. Drinks and Hor Devours. No spell check here.

I'll blame it on SBO for not having spell check equal to my 5th grade education.

There is Beaufort and then there is Beaufort. They are neither the same place nor are they pronounced the same. I have never been to the other Beaufort but have heard it is very nice. In fact I am sure both are a little slice of heaven even if the other one has such an odd pronunciation. I have spent considerable time in Charleston, Kiawah Island, Myrtle Beach, and Isle of Palms so I am sure that Beaufort must be special.
All U Get- glad you enjoyed the day. Your welcome.
I was thinking about your spline. Given the damage to the output shaft are you sure the female spline didn't sustain damage as well? It seems very odd that one half of a mating spline would suffer catastrophic damage and not have any effect on the mating part. Your photo looks like the mating part is bronze or brass and the output shaft is steel, yet the much harder steel part is the one that failed. Quite the conundrum.

See if you can buy some fresh shrimp off the boat, Homer Smith used to sell them roadside out front, and will probably sell you some if you inquire within. Local fresh shrimp are amazingly good, so much better than the farm raised shrimp they sell in stores. Local oysters are likewise very good, they get harvested from extremely unpopulated wilderness areas out near Cedar Island and further North near Swan Quarter. The season is pretty much over now (no longer a month with an "R"). Good luck with the tranny.

We got some shrimp yesterday while they unloaded during the storm. Last night we did the beer tasting at Clawson's with some seafood apps that were pleasantly different having bacon, maple BBQ sauce, and ranch dressings. When we got back to the boat there were five or six couples having a dock and talk and offered us drinks and snacks which we had to politely refuse being stuffed from our trip downtown.

Today is the farmers market over at the courthouse and we heard they do a breakfast crepe. We also want to get something to go with the shrimp. If things continue this way I can foresee an extensive exercise program just to keep trim.

I should be in Beaufort.
I left Virginia a week ago for northern Michigan. Temps in Virginia were approaching the 90 degree mark. Got up this morning, temperatures are in the 30s and its blowing like stink. No bottom painting today.
Besides that, I won't see decent fresh shrimp for awhile.
