I'm going to be selling my 2001 Hunter 420 this year and wondering where the best place to sell her would be. I'm in Louisiana where the market is very limited. I thinking of taking her to Tampa or Houston. Anyone know how the market for sailboats is in those areas?

It's always active or at least in reflection of the economy, you might also look at Bradenton/Palmetto facing each other across the Manatee River. Each has a marina with brokers and lots of foot traffic.

Tampa - St. Pete area is the best on the west coast. More potential cruiser will hit that area. Best bet is to take it to a used boat show anr rally make it look loke the best buy. Be tedious, use carpeting, no shoes, remove all items that will not go with boat. Prepare leaflets. Be pickey. It will sell.

I sail up and down the west coast of SW Florida every year and stop in the Tampa area and St Pete and just this past Oct and Nov and did stop at a very well know dealer and hate to tell you there was a lot of sailboats for sale.
I do know the 420 is a very nice boat and well liked and you need to make sure it is in very good shape
and if priced right will sell.
I would first advertise on maybe Yacht world or some other internet service and maybe if some one looking for your sailboat would get in touch with interest,or get in touch I think Massey brokerage in Regatta Point Marina for info selling your boat.

Enter your boat in a used boat show. Be present and ready to answer any and all questions. If the price is right and your boat outshines the others, then yours will go first. Granted there are lots of boats on the market in the Tampa/St. Pete area. That attract more buyers.

A good broker on the internet!
I figured it is about a $5000 premium to buy a boat of your size from afar. Less if you will deliver it to the buyer in say Florida.

Check out "Preferred Yacht" in St. Petersburg. Bought Hunter 50 from them last year. Ask for Joe.

There are several excellent yacht brokers in the Kemah/Clear Lake area.

Can't speak for Tampa area but will second all the others on used boat sales in Houston area. a lot of boat owners in Houston use their boats for weekend get away places. Yours is a perfect size for that. Market is still strong in this area. Good luck.

Yachtworld.com lists 3 Hunter 420's, 1999-2001, for sale ($100K to $144K) in the Gulf region. One each in Kemah, Bradenton (FL), and Jacksonville. Bradenton would be the Tampa Bay market. I would ask how long each of these have been on the market (and how many times). There are also several 42 Passages up for sale as well, most around FL; but one in Kemah.
