Has anyone gotten AIS from a Standard Horizon 2200 to a Chartplotter?

Since the SH2200 puts out AIS data via NMEA 0183 what chartplotters can read it since most now have NMEA 2000 interfaces.

Not sure which Standard Horizon we have, 2150 or 2200, but it shows AIS on our Garmin plotter.

Not for AIS but had to connect the NMEA 183 signal low to ground to interface our old Garmin 441s to our VHF on our previous boat. then it worked great.

I have it from the 2150 to my Garmin 441s. It is documented somewhere here.

Thanks, I am thinking of one for my boat, but a friend is also considering it and he has a Raymarine 435. Anyone know about them? I looked online and did an RTFM and it was inconclusive.

I love my set-up. I can see AIS targets on my GPS and that is a really cool thing, especially when I am out in the Chesapeake Bay. I can see AIS ships, AIS markers, look at them on the screen, and figure out their position and speed.

The wiring was not straight forwards. I remember the one confusing thing was two negative lines that also need to be wired together to communicate with the units and also need to go to the negative ground.

There are a few youtube videos out there on wiring the set-up too.

I highly recommend this set-up. It is very cool!

I have a Raymarine a78 chartplotter and have been working on this for a while. First I bought an Actisense converter to translate the NMEA 0183 AIS data to NMEA 2000 and an adapter to connect it to the SeatalkNG network. Now I find I bought the wrong Actisense model and it doesn't do AIS so I have to get it connected to a PC so I can change out the firmware. Need to buy a couple more adaptors but according to the Actisense support people and Raymarine is supposed to work.

I bought the GX2200 because I thought it worked the same as the Raymarine AIS radio for a couple hundred dollars less. I've now spent more than I saved and am still not there. Another boat dollars lesson learned.

If you buy a new chartplotter you should have no problems but trying to get AIS to the older Raymarine 435 might not work. The AIS is transmitted at 38400 baud and the 435 might only be setup for 4800 baud. I'd call Raymarine and ask if it is possible to set the 435 to 38400. I couldn't find the option when I looked at the manual for the 435,

Sumner, Thanks. I have never played with his 435 but will check it out.

I have a SH GX2150 connected to a SH CP190 chartplotter. It works really well. AIS is invaluable on the Chesapeake. I attached the wiring diagram. The color codes from the radio are probably the same as yours and the functions are good for any make or model. Aside from power and ground, only connect the wires that are highlighted. As stated previously you need everything to be at the 38400 baud rate. You may be able to slow it down if your chart plotter won't communicate at that speed. I would recommend a call to SH tech support before spending any money. They are extremely helpful and got me connected in 5 minutes.

Most chartplotters that have NMEA 2000 network capability can also handle 0183 signals as well.

I made a trip last fall with a boat that had a GX2200. The owner couldn't get it to work on his 9" chartplotter but it worked fine on a smaller Garmin unit. I have mine talking to a small Garmin EchoMap 44DV and everything works fine.

Yes my 2200 is connected to Raymarine e7D over NMEA 183. Radio was also fed position by old Garmin. I've since upgraded to Raymarine AIS650.

Had my 2200 connected to a CPNi700. But the video that put me on the path to understanding, was this one:

I ended up doing a drawing myself, just to straighten the colors from the radio, and from the plotter in my head and on paper, and after that, it was just a matter of connecting a couple wires, dialing in the setting to ensure I was pulling the right input, and that was all she wrote.

Nice video. I am a big fan of Standard Horizon as they gave me great support before.
