I have just bought a 1984 O'Day 222 and the carpet in the galley is needing to be removed and replaced. I tried pulling it off but it is glued super fast. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get that stuff off? There are a few places where the liner has come loose but most of it is still glued hard. Thanks...

Headliner material is available from www.sailrite.com, as well as different kinds of spray adhesive.
Thanks for the info. I may go with indoor/outdoor carpet. Got some samples and it looks good and also looks much like the same material that I am taking out. Ripping the carpet out is a messy job. Figured out that I can use a carpet knife, cut strips about 6 inches wide and pull it off. Works well, just takes sweat and grit.

I just purchased a O'day 240 with the same carpet this summer. I hired a commercial steam cleaner to do his thing on it. It cost $100. It removed almost all stains and such. You might give that a shot first. Removing and replacing might be overwhelming

That was a good idea. However, the carpet is rotted/falling apart in some areas and will have to be pulled out. Mildew over the years has taken its toll. And yes, I see the re-carpeting to be an overwhelming task. Not looking forward to it at all. Thanks for the suggestion.

Before you tear everything out, you might want to use paper to make templates of sections of headliner. Or at least diagram the seams to help you get it back in more easily.

Good Idea. After looking at it all, putting it back will be a bear!
