I have a 1986 Hunter 285. Just finishing up a nearly year long refurb project. I saved the head and sanitation system for last. Oh what fun.

I can't find a an identifying brand or manufacturer on the manual toilet or pump. I need to locate a replacement plunger seal and rubber diaphragm.

Girlfriend won't go for a sail with me until I can offer all the comforts of home!

Pics attached. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Steve

Looks like a Jabsco to me, a replacement pump at Worst Marine is $112.99, a rebuild kit is $90, your choice. They used 2 or three versions depending on year, they have a picture and manufacture date on the boxes to help you match up the replacements.

Yes, Jabsco. Replace the entire pump assembly with the updated version. Call the girl and tell her to pack up, this is a 10 minute job!

It looks like very old Jabsco...today's rebuild kit won't fit it, and I'm not sure a new pump will fit a base that old--mfrs redesign everything every few years. So it's time for a new toilet...or a least a new pump and base assembly--the bowl, seat and lid seem to be in excellent shape and the bowl will fit any other manual toilet.

If you're really on a tight budget, a new Jabsco pump and base will cost you about $150...you can buy the complete toilet for that...but you can expect to replace the pump every 2-3 years. If your budget can handle a bit more than that, the Raritan PH SuperFlush (which has replaced the PH II/PHC) is the best manual toilet on the market...uses the PHII pump, which has been the top rated manual toilet pump for decades and will last 20 years if kept well lubricated and rebuilt every 5-6 years (about $60 for the kit). The complete toilet is under $300...conversion is less (I have a call into Raritan to find out who has it and how much).

The latest Jabsco 29040-3000 pump assembly is a direct fit for the older gray handle pump models. That is why you want to replace the entire pump assembly.

Yes to GU; the pump assembly will fit. I've replaced the pump on that model, perfect fit.

Yes to Peggy; the new rebuild kit will not fit. By coincidence, I pulled out an old kit (previous owner) because I noticed a tiny shaft seal leak while I was doing my grease/glycol thing a few days ago. Sure enough, very few of the old parts fit (flapper, piston o-ring, joker valve).

As other have said, don't rebuild even in the future. I will install a new pump in the spring. It takes only a few minutes.

Even if the current pump does fit the older base, I'd still invest in a new base because plastics dry out and become brittle with age..and Jabsco plastic parts were never particularly robust to start with.

...there's an indicator for embrittlement of the plastic base. You are sitting on the toilet, the bowl snaps off and indicates that it is time to replace the base! :what: It is very definitive.

Swap that head area down with some hot water and bleach too Steve, you got a crop of mold starting that has a piquant aroma of it's own that doesn't appeal to most women. And not to start trouble, but is that a gate valve trying to hide behind the head ?
BTW having been married for fifty years I've been conditioned to always replace toilets and rehab the head first in anything used, boats, houses, RV's you name it.

I meant swab, I think I'll quit now while I'm ahead. Went sailing in very light winds today, freaking 14 YO cotter pin broke allowing the pin holding boom to gooseneck to fall out. None of the parts went overboard surprisingly, fixed now, but I need another sundowner.
