We're pulling our Kanzaki KBW10 transmission and shipping it off to be rebuilt. The unit seems to shift well and run smoothly, but the ATF turns black and smells burnt after just 40 or 50 hours of operation. We've also noticed that it seems we've lost a knot of boat speed at cruise RPM. So I'm pretty sure the clutches are slipping. I've read a few comments about it being important to maintain the adjustment on the shift mechanism to keep the unit from slipping, but I have no idea what this adjustment consists of. There seems to be a positive "click" from the shift lever on the transmission when shifting to forward or reverse, so I assume the unit is properly engaging. What are you supposed to do to "adjust" this transmission shifter?
