I had some damage to the cockpit floor of my O'day 222 when I purchased it 8 years ago. To cover it up I bought some of the plastic imitation teak for the floor. The product is thick and the pattern is all the way through. It is wearing very well. It is easy to clean with just a hose off and best of all it is as safer if not safer than the non skid flooring. It is a consideration for sole replacement since it never needs refinishing.
Please tell me where one can purchase the plastic imitation teak material. Thank you!

I've tried the mat thing and the small carpet thing and found I spent more time cleaning and shaking them out than I did before. Now, I keep a good supply of old towels on board. One or two for the cabin sole and cockpit. As the deck is usually wet from dew, rain, washing, coming aboard after swimming, etc., this makes for an east mop up. Take them home after the day, throw them in the wash and bring 'em back. Easy - Peasy. Soles are always clean and dry.

so are teak cockpit grates.....makes a great non-skid, non-show dirt surface....everything hides below the grate and slowly
makes it's way to the cockpit drain...maybe my best purchase...Pat

Cockpits stay a lot cleaner when you keep the dock finger hosed off. I also had a non-skid doormat on the first place feet land in the cockpit (however, mine was a powerboat...this might be a little harder to do on a sailboat) . It was taken off the boat and hosed off every time I washed the boat.

Yes Peggie, we use mats on the finger pier and at step in on cockpit seat. Chief

When I hop aboard, I automatically take off my shoes. I find it much easier to walk in the tight confines when my flipper-sized feet aren't encumbered by shoes.

The second thing I did was to go to Lowe's and buy a 20ft roll of indoor-outdoor carpeting and a roll of that nasty double sided carpet tape.
The carpet itself isn't very thick, but it has held up for this past summer season well. It drains and dries quickly, and is easy to clean.
The evil double sided carpet tape is the worst thing. It is thin...very thin, and sticks to everything, more-so than duct tape and gorilla glue. When peeling it off the roll, one side is easy; it's the protective paper on the backside that is a royal PITA to get off without twisting, folding, or getting stuck to.
Make sure your carpet is measured, re-measured, and cut they way you want ti because it is a bear to lift off again once it contacts that tape. So far, the tape is still sticking, even after many soaking wet bodies draining dry in the cockpit and a couple spraydowns.
The carpeting went for ~$20 for a 20ft x 5ft roll, and the tape was another $10, if memory serves me. Drawback - the carpeting was only in green.
At the bottom of the galley steps, I just set a welcome mat down because my heel tends to dig in as I'm going down the steps.

Buy a roll of the rubber non-skid "waffle weave" shelf liner...Walmart has it. Cut strips and glue 'em to the back of the rug. That rug will NOT move even if the boat takes a knockdown. I even used it to keep a microwave on a shelf above my dinette and the microwave never moved either. However, powerboats don't heel much, so that MIGHT not have worked as well on a sailboat as it did on my boat.

Peggie: Here is one for you. I 1/4" sponge padded my microwave shelf and then covered over it with vinyl stapled under the shelf. I had the boat out in 7' rollers the other day and that M/W didn't budge! We use that shelf waffle stuff too. Chief

We put the waffle under the throw rug at the base of the companionway. It never moves and it collects most of the dirt.
On shoes: they're off and left in the cockpit for the guests to trip over. Makes a gentle suggestion to remove their shoes. I personally can't understand shoes in the cockpit. But on deck, the genoa and staysail cars like to break toes so I wear shoes going forward. (When I remember to put them back on.)

When folks come aboard I want them to enjoy themselves. Beyond the really apparent things like street shoes and heels; whatever.
LOL Heels... I have to roll my eyes (can't help myself) every time I see someone get on a boat with high heels. Usually on a powerboat... Just sayin

Still have no clue what the blue green dots were from. If it was blue green algae from the water we are in trouble!
Spider poop. I'm betting you have blue or green sail covers?

We haven't had any, or spiders for that matter, since we moved out of the marina and onto the mooring in the Caribbean! I used to have my grandson do "spider patrol" every evening at duck when they came out and started web construction, and swab the decks before any play started in the morning. Now, in the Caribbean, on the mooring or on the hook, the rain keeps the decks spotless and washes off the salt, and there are no spiders - they simply can't get to us! No spider patrol, and no swabbing the decks!

The stuff works pretty darned well on a sailboat, too. Things sitting on it will fall over before they will slide!

I think it's a reasonable question since cleaning is an on-going exercise in boating. I sail barefoot and encourage others to do so since they can "feel" the boat better but shoes are welcome, no open heel sandals or flip-flops though.
We bought our Hunter 27 for my First Mate daughter and her friends to enjoy and for family weekends while she was in middle school and now in high school. I just take the extra time to clean the sole after sailing and everyone has left.
In less than two years she'll be in college or working and supporting herself. The sole won't need so much cleaning since there won't be so many footprints as there won't be so many people moving about. The sailing won't be as noisy and busy either.
There will just be memories of some really great times for her mom and me. So for now, I'll take the footprints.

Makes me wonder if silicone sealer/caulk can be used to glue the carpet down. Should be easier to remove?

Unless you're referring to "wall to wall" carpet, why would you want to glue it down. Stuff gets under rugs...no way to pick 'em up to clean under 'em, so they scratch up the floor. Rugs get dirty...you can't take 'em off the boat to clean 'em if they're glued down....or, if they're cheap enough, replace 'em.

Next thing, you'll be recommending 5200!
