Time To Say Good Bye

Sadly another phase of our boating life has come to an end. We put our H29.5 Up To No Good up for sale and she is going under contract after only 10 days. She was a great boat and hopefully if all works out she will be a great boat for the young couple that made us the offer.
We were very lucky her previous owners took outstanding care of her and with all the help from this site we continued the tradition of upkeep and upgrades. She does have a little more wear and tear but over all an outstanding boat. With our current schedules, the cost vs the dwindling time we were able to sail it was becoming impractical to keep her. I would rather see her go to someone who will use her than feel guilty about not taking her out to spread her wings. Perhaps a Hobie or something is in the future we'll see.
So thanks for all the advice I have received from you all and I hope any I gave was of some benefit to others.

Fair winds and smooth seas. It's been a lovely cruise.

A Hobie can be a lot of fun... here are some shots of my hobie and some of my crazy family off the coast of Florida.

Dave,

You come across as a guy having some useful background experience.

Not having enough sailing time & incurring added costs, should not take away
from your valued experience. There are alot of Hunters out there with folks
asking questions & needing advice.

So as I see it, you really don't have say goodbye, why knot just stick around some.
This is our club & you have been a solid member for eight years.

Stay aboard pal.........You may enjoy helping others.

Dave, like Capt Ron says, stick around. You have invaluable insight into a Hunter now and can pass along information to help someone avoid a pitfall you ran across. I'm still active on a forum for my FIRST sailboat. It's been out of production since forever but the 'Birds keep finding new owners to love them and ask questions about them.

Out of curiosity, when one sells a boat, would PO(as in seller) tech support/consultations forms part of the deal?

It's a smart thing to realize the boat you own isn't working for you. It's sad too. But you have to look at reality and not what you wish reality is. Give her a hug and say goodbye. Go on to your future.

You're just taking a break. And the idea of a Hobie sounds great. We don't need no stinkin' cabin!

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I was once in a similar situation and I ended up going down to a Compac 23. At least you will still be sailing.

Dave; If you decide to want to come to the mountains up here is west part of Virginny, feel free to stop, sit a spell and enjoy life at the headwaters of the James River. I use to live in Denbigh growing up but a much different place now. As for FT. Eustis, do they still call if FT. Useless?

We have had a few neglected boats in the club that owners never used and for some reason can't let go. Better they should sell them to someone who will get some enjoyment from them. It's a tough call once sailing has hold of you.

Dave,
Adding this, as my final point of view taken from one of the Godfather movies,

(using an Italiano accent) "Hey, once-a you get in, you-a never ever getta out."

A not unreasonable question.

I had a guy I knew sell a house. The first time home owners kept calling him to change the light bulbs! True story.

Sure, help them out, but if you've documented stuff thoroughly, then your transfer should cover all the bases. Answer a few questions later, sure, but if it gets burdensome, then tell 'em to grow up. :)

I once sold a house and drew up an "Owners Manuel." My attorney nixed it. It was tantamount to admitting there were insufficiencies with the house in his opinion. Arm's length is best, I think.

I disagree. A boat is different. I would no less sell my boat without its electrical wiring diagram than I would the boat's manual. Besides, all my "stuff" is available online. F-ing lawyers!!!:deadhorse::rolleyes::wink:

Well that was a very honorable impulse... it is a shame we live in a society where being nice can get you sued. :frown:

We found the PO and formed a good friendship. We got pics of her from when they first bought her. We have kept in touch on Facebook for years and hooked up at the Annapolis show each year

+1 to Capt Ron's first post.
RE: follow up to selling a boat.......I have enjoyed the contact with people who bought boats from us. Some gave an update and some had questions. It was my pleasure to chat/respond. One couple became our best friends and helped us find our home in Florida for retirement! Whoda Thunk!?!?
