If it were me, I think I'd had to have gone by way of Hawaii. lol
I'd have found a logical justification.

Good Stuff!
So - you're gonna be a Canuck now? Nothing to do with politics, is it? ;) Welcome! And welcome to the Wet Coast: you'll love it here!

Conversion to propane is a good idea, but make sure you comply with ABYC installation perfectly - surveyors are very picky about that up here.

And if you think ferries are a nucance in SF bay, try Southern Gulf Islands! I once counted 9 in about 3 hours.

You used up 18 gals running 10 hrs (60 miles)? That's a LOT! You'll never get around the Central Coast with that. I can get close to 200 miles on my tank, and that's low. Or maybe I'm misreading the blog? Ah, yes I was. About 1/2 gal/hr? So 40 hrs (200 miles) on a tank? Minimal, but should be OK.

I once tried to motor in a straight line in fog (didn't look at the compass...). Within about 5 minutes, I'd motored in a complete circle! Autohelm good, compass better.

Going into LaPush - you're braver than I am!

Ahhh... tide rips: welcome to Salish Sea! You'll have to check out the rips just North of Porlier Pass on a flood tide and NW wind...

Victoria: isn't that dock in front of the Empress great? Empress Hotel, Parliament buildings, buskers, museum... great as long as you don't look at the price (!).

If you're going to be in Maple Bay for a while, I might make a trip down there and say hello!

Gunni: What sailing? That is a nasty run and they never got to sail until hitting the straits in Washington/ Canada! Chief

OK, so it was a bus ride! :) But seeing the Kings Range and Cannon Beach from the outside is on my bucket list. As I remember, late year is when the winds come up.

Gunni: In fact, the winds should not be doing much blowing in the fall but this year we can't seem to buy a decent day. The spring is when it blows the worst here. Got out last week and finally caught a few fish with a sunny day and mild seas. The following day we never saw the sun! In 30 years I have never seen such mean seas and wind. I finally just gave up and came home for awhile.
I think Stu commented they never saw a sailboat at sea on this trip until up around the straits

Grand adventure. Too often we hear of people taking undue risks in the effort to save time. It sounds like you did well on this one. Congratulations and welcome to the Salish Sea.

Capta: late comment to your earlier Hawaii response. The obvious justification would be to just make ONE tack and eliminate that power run north! Right? Chief

SF's loss is BC's gain.
I'll 2nd that. Welcome to the marina, Stu. I am ecstatic that I now have an infinite source of sailing knowledge setting less than 200' from my slip. It's my round. As an aside: Which day did you pick to calibrate the "new" autopilot?
